FPL FORECAST 2016/17: Gameweek 14

December 2, 2016

Each and every week the three members of The Hype Team post their Premier League and FPL predictions in an attempt to enlighten players that might be stuck with their FPL choices and transfers. In addition, we’ll be taking on a guest for every Gameweek in the PL. On the weekly agenda are a general predictions category, a Gameweek Fantasy Premier League forecast, scout picks, and captaincy choices. For the opening weekend of the season, we welcome @CalledItFPL as our 14th guest. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

In a change from last season, the early Saturday kick off time has now been moved back to 12:30am, meaning the weekly FPL deadline will also be moving 15 minutes back.

The transfer deadline for GW14 is Saturday 3rd December at 11:30am

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of the first edition of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interest parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions (Mark Lawrenson style, only less biased, hopefully) and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast.A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, the wildcard differential players, and general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2016/17 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Man City 2-2 Chelsea

Crystal Palace 1-1 Southampton

Spurs 2-0 Swansea

Stoke 1-0 Burnley

Sunderland 2-2 Leicester

West Brom 1-0 Watford

West Ham 1-2 Arsenal

Bournemouth 0-3 Liverpool

Everton 2-0 Man United

Middlesbrough 2-0 Hull

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 14

Best GW Attacking Options:

Liverpool (a) vs. Bournemouth

Spurs (h) vs. Swansea

West Brom (h) vs. Watford

Stoke (h) vs. Burnley

Arsenal (a) vs. West Ham

Chelsea (a) vs Man City

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Spurs (h) vs. Swansea

Middlesbrough (h) vs. Hull

West Brom (h) vs. Watford

Liverpool (a) vs. Bournemouth

Everton (h) vs. Man United

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Aguero, Sigurdsson, Anichebe, Origi, Pedro, Kane, A. Sanchez

OUT: De Gea, Amat, West Ham players, Holebas, Fabianski, Stones

Who are the teams to look out for?:

West Brom: Watford can’t score goals and West Brom excels at keeping clean sheets. Only one thing can happen, right?

Arsenal: London derbies won’t come more frantic than this, the sheer attacking power of the Gunners should be more than enough to see away a struggling West Ham.

Liverpool: Getting getter defensively and figuring out football post-Coutinho they are fortunate in that Bournemouth have never beat them in their history, it will be another trying match for Klopp’s side but they should have enough to comfortably beat a Bournemouth who like to play open football.

Spurs: Despite the upturn in Swansea the Lilywhites have never beaten Spurs in the Premier League, and with Big Toby closing in on a return the free scoring Swans you saw beat Crystal Palace may not make a return in this fixture. Also, Harry Kane has hit form at the right time.

Southampton: I believe they are favourites in this match even though I put a draw as my prediction, only because Palace can’t defend to save their lives. Charlie Austin is surely one to bank on in this fixture.

Middlesbrough: Recently found their attacking verse, the team from the north welcome a Hull team who are on a nosedive in recent weeks.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Watford: Can’t defend, can’t score. Currently in mid-table limbo.

Crystal Palace: Can’t defend, can however score. They got up against a team that actually can defend though in the form of Southampton and there is serious concern that they are going to be in for one hell of a relegation scrap this year.

Burnley: On the road the Clarets look shaky and unable to get in any shots on goal. Meanwhile their opponents in Stoke City have started making amends for a terrible start to the season.

Hull City: Can’t defend, don’t have any capable strikers, weak midfield, and they visit a team who prides itself on defensive stability. The Tigers are not one to

GW Differential Picks:

Victor Valdes (MID): In his one appearance for Manchester United the Spaniard played after injury to David De Gea, he made 11pts by keeping a clean sheet, made seven saves, and picked up to bonus. Shortly after the Tigers were relegated, so here we are and now Valdes plays for promoted Boro. Hull won’t want to see the face of a man that helped them get relegated, and with the lack of strikers available they may not actually have a chance to.

Matt Phillips (WBA): When a man is in form, it just is that simple to pick them. Matt Phillips has finally found his place in a Baggies shirt and is contributing to plenty of goals and assists. Watford shouldn’t be difficult to conquer in order to keep the good form going.

I also write the weekly wildcard articles, for a preview on the other eight options head over to it now, hint-hint.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

(C) Harry Kane – Swansea be warned, the HurriKane is back and firing. Having scored against London rivals Chelsea, West Ham, and Arsenal the England international will be the main focus when Bob Bradley’s Swans pay a visit to the Lane. Swansea may have recently overcome a big obstacle by getting their first win since the opening day but their mission gets much harder when they cross paths with an in-form Kane.

(VC) – Glen Johnson – I like to pick a total wildcard in at least one of my two captaincy picks, so this week the honour goes to total wildcard Glen Johnson after his return to the Stoke starting eleven. Burnley is the opposition and if the teams away form continues the way it has been so far then the Premier League icon may bag the easiest six points of the weekend.

OUT: Coutinho, Gundogan

Who is the team to look out for?:

Middlesbrough: Having a solid season so far but in desperate need of some W’s on the board. This week is the perfect opportunity for Gaston and co to run riot.

Who is the team to avoid?:

Hull: After a drawn out cup tie midweek there will be tired legs from the first whistle.

Burnley: Question marks over the fitness of their saviour Tom Heaton could potentially result in a one sided show. Fewest attacking returns away from home in the league.

GW Differential Picks:

Joe Allen: Expected to start in a more forward role once again with the return of Glen Whelan to the squad.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

(C) Harry Kane: Easily the premium pick for the week with a tie against Swansea. After conceding four against Palace, the potential is mouth-watering.

(VC) Diego Costa: For several weeks now I have regretted not captaining the most consistent player in the league. Similar to Jamie Vardy syndrome of last year, the points potential is guaranteed but limited.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Sigurdsson, Pedro, Kane, Anichebe

OUT: Lukaku, Watford players, Heaton, Benteke

Who are the teams to look out for?:

West Brom – Pulis has managed to field a team with good Goalkeeping, Defensive, Midfield, and Forward potential in the FPL. Watford’s a good home game to bank on a clean sheet and some goals.

Arsenal – They lost in the week to Southampton in the EFL Cup, but West Ham are that bad (even though they’re kind of playing well) and I think they’ll struggle against Arsenal’s heavy hitters.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Watford – The Hornets are struggling to find the net right now, and might struggle to come away from a potent West Brom side with anything.

Crystal Palace – They play an in-form Southampton side who are firing on all cylinders. A few FPL pundits are citing Benteke as a potential captaincy option, but I don’t see it happen. I expect Pardew to lose again.

GW Differential Picks:

Lee Grant (STK) – The Stoke keeper could have an easy day against a Burnley side who can’t shoot away from home.

Victor Anichebe (SUN) – Big Vic is a powerhouse who could help carve open Leicester’s leaky defence away from home.

Victor Valdes (MID) – Another Goalkeeper who could have an easy weekend is Victor Valdes. The Boro keeper faces a side destined for relegation.

Divock Origi (LIV) – Surely coming into the side in place of Coutinho, the Belgian forward could be a bargain up top in the short to medium term.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

(C) Harry Kane – The Hurrikane conflicts with the rising popularity of Gylfi Sigurdsson this week, but that shouldn’t matter to FPL players. Gylfi has a good run of fixtures after Spurs, so get him in whilst he’s cheap. Kane doesn’t have the awkwardness of having a difficult fixture this week, and could be a massive differential, still being owned by less than 10% of the players in the game.

(VC) – Alexis Sanchez – In our Captaincy article for Gameweek 14, I kept Alexis’s inclusion as our alternative very brief. His inclusion, should you be one of the near 24% that own Alexis, it’s a fixture at a West Ham side who can’t buy a good result. Up top, Sanchez, Ozil, and Walcott, should purr against a dodgy Hammers defence.

Other Gameweek Comments:

I was sitting for a while clicking my fingers of the Man City home tie against Chelsea. I’ve gone for a high scoring draw, but it’s a tie that you can flip a coin on. On one hand City have an impressive record against Chelsea (as does Aguero) but City have been average at home and are there for the taking.

There’s a large dose of déjà vu with the FPL this season. Heading into Gameweek 14 my three Forwards are Kane, Austin, and Aguero. That’s the same 3 that propelled me into the Top 20k of players in the 2014/15 season. I also have two Chelsea defenders and Arsenal/Liverpool midfielders. It’s literally an identical season, just two years later.
