FPL FORECAST 2016/17: Gameweek 21

Each and every week the three members of The Hype Team post their Premier League and FPL predictions in an attempt to enlighten players that might be stuck with their FPL choices and transfers. In addition, we’ll be taking on a guest for every Gameweek in the PL. On the weekly agenda are a general predictions category, a Gameweek Fantasy Premier League forecast, scout picks, and captaincy choices. For the opening weekend of the season, we welcome @_FFM_Mark as our Gameweek 21 guest. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 21 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

The transfer deadline for GW21 is Saturday 14th January at 11:30am.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of the first edition of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interest parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions (Mark Lawrenson style, only less biased, hopefully) and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast.A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, the wildcard differential players, and general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2016/17 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Gameweek 21 Fixture Prediction

Spurs 3-0 West Brom

Burnley 2-1 Southampton

Hull 1-3 Bournemouth

Sunderland 1-1 Stoke

Swansea 1-3 Arsenal

Watford 0-0 Middlesbrough

West Ham 2-1 Crystal Palace

Leicester 2-1 Chelsea

Everton 3-1 Man City

Man United 1-2 Liverpool

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 21

Best GW Attacking Options:

Spurs (H) vs West Brom

Bournemouth (a) vs Hull

Arsenal (a) vs Swansea

Leicester (H) vs Chelsea

Liverpool (a) vs

Manchester United (H) vs Liverpool

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Spurs (H) vs West Brom

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?

IN: Coutinho and Lallana.

OUT: Mane, for Coutinho; Lallana, for Firmino.

Who is the team to look out for?:

The Obvious:

Spurs (H) vs West Brom: The obvious mismatch of the week, gifts us free scoring Spurs against a West Brom side that can’t stop conceding. Kane and co will be captaincy favourites this week, if you don’t own one, get one.

The Wildcard:

Arsenal (A) vs Swansea: Not that Arsenal are wildcards, but a lot of opinions have suggested Swansea might be a stumbling block for the Gunners. Personally, I can see this being a high scoring affair for Arsenal. Swansea will be focused on the Championship (next year), while Arsenal can get back to their very best. Sanchez and Giroud might be worth a cheeky punt as captains.

Who is the team to avoid?:

Swansea (H) vs Arsenal: The Gunners have a point to prove since their ‘One Night in Bournemouth’. My only worry though is that Giroud has recently signed a new contract and could have been playing Wenger for a mug and drops off form instantly now he can afford a brand-new Mercedes with his sign on fee.

Hull (H) vs Bournemouth: I can’t see a way out for Hull in this fixture, especially because Bournemouth are the real deal this season. The new Tigers manager has the impossible task.

Southampton (A) vs Burnley: Oh look, a team has recently come into good form and now they travel to Burnley. Southampton don’t know that they are in store for.

GW Differential Picks:

Junior Stanislas: A real understated player this season, the Frenchman has been in superb form when he hasn’t been injured and since returning to the side he has been influential, picking up a mouth-watering collection of points from the right-wing. Hull are doomed and I can sense another convincing Hull defeat.

Andre Gray: The man of the hour, and returning to Turf Moor where he has scored four goals in his last two home appearances. Southampton are yet another team going to Burnley having discovered some good form, a fortress of the Premier League in which I expect Gray to continue impressing.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

(C) Harry Kane: Not the most obvious option of the week but I fancy his chances at home against an aging Albion side. He’s still a consistent points scorer in the FPL and is on course for the golden boot should he pick up form.

(VC) Alexis Sanchez: I can see 6000% or more of the FPL cosmos investing on this man. While he is certainly an essential player this season I’m not at all slightly put off by his position change following the return of major differential Olivier Giroud.

IN: Sanchez, Giroud, Hazard, Costa, Ibrahimovic, Van Dijk, McAuley, Phillips, Rondon, Defoe, Walker, Rose.

OUT: Aguero, Mane, Firmino, Payet, Zaha, Ake.

Who is the team to look out for?:

The Obvious:

Arsenal (a) vs Swansea: The obvious mismatch of the week, gifts us free scoring Arsenal against a Swansea side that can’t stop conceding. Sanchez and co will be captaincy favourites this week, if you don’t own one, get one.

The Wildcard:

Chelsea (a) vs Leicester: Not that Chelsea are wildcards, but a lot of opinions have suggested Leicester might be a stumbling block for the blues. Personally I can see this being a high scoring affair for Chelsea. Leicester will be focused on the Champions League, while Chelsea can get back to their very best. Costa and Hazard might be worth a cheeky punt as captains.

Who is the team to avoid?:

The Obvious:

Swansea (H) vs Arsenal: To have any chance in this fixture Swansea will need to play a back 10 with Sigurdsson awarded an infinite number of set pieces. Unfortunately this looks like the most one sided fixture of the season so far.

The Wildcard:

Man City (a) vs Everton: Man City are in a deeper crisis than they realise at this point. An incredible depth of talent has led to their downfall, with rotation providing no consistency in performance. FPL options are a concern, even the once essential Aguero is now an afterthought. If Pep can find his best XI and get them on the pitch every week things might change but for now they are on a downward trend.

GW Differential Picks:

Michail Antonio: Dimitri Payets time with the Hammers is likely coming to an end. Depending on where he plays he has the potential to be a double digit goal scorer and assist maker.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

(C) Diego Costa: Not the most obvious option of the week but I fancy his chances away at a rotating Leicester side. He’s still the most consistent points scorer in the FPL and is on course for a golden boot.

(VC) Alexis Sanchez: I can see 60% or more of the FPL universe banking on this man. While he is certainly an essential player this season I’m slightly put off by his position change following the return of Giroud.

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Arsenal (a) vs. Swansea

Middlesbrough (a) vs. Watford

Spurs (H) vs. West Brom

Burnley (H) vs. Southampton

Bournemouth (a) vs. Hull

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Dele Alli/Christian Eriksen, Arsenal defenders, Baines, Aguero, Kane, Charlie Daniels (to replace Ake), Stanislas (good 5th midfielder shout), Rondon (in place of misfiring Carroll/Origi), Adam Lallana (for the Swansea home fixture.

OUT: Nathan Ake (why did Chelsea do this to you?), AFCON players (obviously), Benteke, Origi, Watford players.

Who is the team to look out for?:

Everton - The Toffees have only lost to Liverpool at home this season and I favour them to get something against a City sdie that still cannot defend. I think there will be goals, but if one team is to shade it, it'll be Everton.

Burnley - At home again, Burnley could sweep aside Southampton and continue their crusade to stay up in the Premier League based purely off home form.

Leicester - The Foxes have been decent at home, and even without Mahrz and Slimani, I expect a hard game for Chelsea, and another opportunity for the chasing pack to close the gap.

Liverpool: United didn't attack Liverpool in their previous fixture and this is a good fixture to have Liverpool pull away from United in the title race (not that I'm including United in that picture).

Obvious picks to do well this week: Spurs and Arsenal

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Southampton - The Saints are marching down the Premier League table even though they beat Liverpool in mid-week. There could be a lot of changes for the trip to Burnley, a side who are very capable at home.

Watford - The points have dried up for FPL favourites Holebas and Capoue. It'd be very surprising to see either man pick up any points against a strong Boro back-line.

GW Differential Picks:

Junior Stanislas (BOU) - Stanislas has assisted in his last 2 games for Bournemouth and is another player who could pile misery onto Hull's season.

Olivier Giroud (ARS) - By the law of the land, Giroud's ownership puts him in the realm of a differential and is the obvious pick to make a difference against a Swansea side who always give Arsenal a good game.

Andre Gray (BUR) - Burnley seem to have 30 homes games in a season, with in-form forward Gray looking a real handful against all opposition.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

(C) Alexis Sanchez - Captain sensible for the weekend, Sanchez could tear apart Swansea and their new manager Paul Clement. Sanchez will operate from the left of midfield again and support Giroud on every occasion.

(VC) Harry Kane - West Brom have recently lost 1-0 to both Arsenal and Chelsea on the road, and I expect another 1-0 to Spurs. I've gone with Alli/Eriksen in my Scout Picks in case a goal rush happens, but I expect Kane to follow the pattern of Giroud and Costa scoring against West Brom - a forward player breaking West Brom hearts.

Other Gameweek Comments:

With the FA Cup done and dusted, there is only two games that pose potential rotation, and I'm of course talking about the League Cup semi-final fixtures. With United and Hull playing on Tuesday I expect minimal rotation come the weekend. With Liverpool and Southampton they might tweek their line ups. Liverpool are probably going to rotate their attacking players and it is hard to guess if Origi or Sturridge is getting the nod and with Coutinho's return how he'll change the starting 11 will have an impact on FPL players with Origi and Firmino.
