FPL FORECAST 2016/17: Gameweek 34

Each and every week the three members of The Hype Team post their Premier League and FPL predictions in an attempt to enlighten players that might be stuck with their FPL choices and transfers. In addition, we’ll be taking on a guest for every Gameweek in the PL. On the weekly agenda are a general predictions category, a Gameweek Fantasy Premier League forecast, scout picks, and captaincy choices. For Gameweek 34 we welcome @FPLBandit as our next guest. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 34 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

The transfer deadline for GW34 is Saturday 22nd April 2017 at 14:00pm.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of the first edition of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interest parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions (Mark Lawrenson style, only less biased, hopefully) and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast.A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, the wildcard differential players, and general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2016/17 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Gameweek 34 Fixture Prediction

Bournemouth 3-0 Middlesbrough

Hull 2-1 Watford

Swansea 2-2 Stoke

West Ham 1-3 Everton

Burnley 0-1 Man United

Liverpool 3-1 Crystal Palace

Chelsea 2-0 Southampton

Arsenal 2-1 Leicester

Middlesbrough 2-0 Sunderland

Crystal Palace 0-4 Spurs

Man City 2-1 Man United

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 34

Best GW Attacking Options:

Spurs (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Chelsea (H) vs. Southampton

Bournemouth (H) vs. Middlesbrough

Liverpool (H) vs. Crystal Palace

Hull City (H) vs. Watford

Everton (A) vs. West Ham

Arsenal (H) vs. Leicester

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Spurs (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Chelsea (H) vs. Southampton

Bournemouth (H) vs. Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough (H) vs. Sunderland

Manchester United (A) vs. Burnley

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Eric Bailly, Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Negredo, Harry Kane, Xherdan Shaqiri, Andros Townsend, Wilfried Zaha, Josh King, Phil Jagielka.

OUT: Fernando Llorente, Diego Costa,

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Middlesbrough: Despite my prediction for a loss against Bournemouth the reality is that Boro could get results against Bournemouth and Sunderland. Ben Gibson and Alvaro Negredo are the best options to have in your FPL teams and who knows…they might pay off, surely something has got to go right for Boro who put in a satisfactory performance against Arsenal but were unlucky to lose.

Liverpool: Grinding out results now, and with Roberto Firmino becoming a vital part of their efforts at getting into the Champions League next season the Reds steely grit will benefit them against Crystal Palace who are without stalwart Mamadou Sakho at the heart of their defence. Liverpool clipped the wings of the Eagles earlier in the season and they will look for a similar performance this time round. Plus, the Gini is back at home.

Spurs: Poor old Crystal Palace, this might be the most unfortunate double gameweek for them. Nothing is going to stop me from considering Spurs as the best team currently in the Premier League based on form, so I think it will be another high scoring performance from Kane and company to push Chelsea further into the title race.

Everton: The Belgian beast Romelu Lukaku is currently scoring goals for fun, and he might have the easiest task of all to extend his goal scoring record against West Ham. The past seven league appearances have seen Lukaku net against the Hammers, and for that one reason I think the Toffees can do considerable damage to a fractured West Ham team.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Crystal Palace: Spurs and Liverpool are two teams you don’t want to face in the double gameweek. Also, against the Reds they are without Mamadou Sakho because he can’t face his parent club. Spurs are just next level too, and with Kane back to top form it is hard seeing the Eagles finding any kind of result in this hectic schedule.

Watford: Marco Silva has things purring with the Tigers playing at home, so I expect another bullish performance from Oumar Niasse and Kamil Grosiki who are turning out to be incredibly good signings for Hull. Silva’s home record is still intact so I don’t expect Watford to upset that. I just hope Troy Deeney doesn’t come back to haunt me on those words.

GW Differential Picks:

Antonio Barragan (MID): Will play both games for Boro and has two good chances against Bournemouth and Sunderland to keep some clean sheets. I can’t overlook Barragan as he is a cheap alternative if you can’t afford Ben Gibson.

Mesut Ozil (ARS): The man in the middle has been in stellar form since returning from injury with three FPL returns from his last four matches, and two of them were double-digit performances. The German could be the key to unlocking the Leicester defence which can’t keep it clean on their travels.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Romelu Lukaku – There is no way I’m not picking Lukaku, the Belgian has scored in his last seven appearances versus West Ham, this is just easy FPL points for the Everton striker.

(VC): Oumar Niasse – With Zlatan the initial captain, though now obviously injured, Oumar Niasse comes in for a direct replacement, meaning he takes the armband should Lukaku have a freak injury.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Rotation, rotation, rotation. I will keep saying it, the wretched bench will come into effect for some of these double gameweek players. Go for sensible options who will play, but quite honestly with the quality and situation of the teams in this double gameweek it is hardly worth investing a huge amount of your time into Boro, Palace, or United players. The bigger double gameweek happens further down the line and this is bush league in comparison to GW37 where City, Chelsea, and Spurs all feature twice. Kane, Hazard, and Sterling are better options than Downing, Benteke, and Ibrahimovic. I’m not too fussed as all the teams are in terrible positions…Boro are just out of form and have been since September, Crystal Palace have the two hardest fixtures for any double gameweek team I’ve ever seen, and you know that Manchester United will rotate due to the second leg of their Europa League tie against Anderlecht. Think wisely, and for the love of god don’t drop Romelu Lukaku.

GW Differential:

Gaston Ramirez (MID): The classy Uruguayan International is the main influencer in what is mostly a stale Boro side. While many are flocking to Negredo for FPL answers, it may be Ramirez that picks up the points. I could easily see a couple of assists and a goal with these fixtures.

FPL Captaincy Picks: (C) Christian Benteke: His fixtures aren't the best but his constant threat in the box over two games is too good to resist.

(VC) Romelu Lukaku: His track record against the Hammers combined with his golden boot form is almost good enough for me to ignore the DGW captain options all together. Almost.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Eric Bailly, Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Negredo, Harry Kane, Andros Townsend, Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke, David de Gea - Essentially with most playing their wildcards soon, just gamble on the DGW players

OUT: Fernando Llorente, Diego Costa, Gylfi Sigurdsson (unfortunately), Andy Carroll. Keep Marcos Alonso, longterm owners will regret selling him for their squad value sake.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Middlesbrough: They're going down, that appears obvious unless there is a massive swing in results, which come on - it won't happen. Boro are easy to back against, which makes it harder putting in the likes of Gibson and Negredo, but they've shown JUST enough to warrant a place in my personal team and Scout Picks. Fortunately they are playing Sunderland, an even worse outfit. I expect a Boro win in one of the games, probably when Moyes shows up, so the gamble is there with the likes of Negredo, etc.

Crystal Palace: Sam has mercilessly crapped on Palace's chances this Gameweek, and it's because he doesn't back them in the FPL this week, but he's dead wrong about their potential. Liverpool can't defend and Palace love playing a big team currently, so there's no reason to suggest that Wilfried Zaha, a player on Spurs's radar, could do a Fantasy job on both jobs, even in defeat. Benteke, Townsend, and Zaha, all have huge potential, and one or more are worth the risk. Remember Charlie Austin at QPR in the Double Gameweek at Villa and West Brom? Some players can surprise you.

Man United: Rounding off the DGW teams, if there's one team that will jam a couple of clean sheets this week (yes, there's always one), Jose is the man to deliver. De Gea appears to be an essential in this regards and I'm expecting the City game, on a Thursday night, to be full of rotation and a tactical battle on the sidelines, which most likely means it will be a cagey affair for the cameras. Eric Bailly is the best bet for defender, with doubts over Valencia's play time. Avoid midfielders, and gamble on Zlatan, even though I think he'll miss the Burnley game.

Everton: West Ham bad. Everton good. West Ham bad at defending, attacking, and playing at home. Lukaku and Everton good at exploiting this against the Hammers. 7 games in a row with a goal, surely he's captaincy material, right? It might be a decimation.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Swansea: The fixture list in recent weeks means that Gylfi Sigurdsson has been one of the only 3pm players in most FPL squads, so people have been watching to see the Iceland international perform in a points capacity, only to dwindle. Gylfi's great against bigger clubs, but plays the vanishing act far too often against teams in and around mid table. I've been fair with them in my predictions, as they've been unlucky, but Stoke are solid and Mark Hughes is making some very good calls in regards to substitutions that are changing the game in Stoke's favour. Swansea will probably lose, Hull will win, and the relegation fight will probably have a nice bow wrapped on it.

Arsenal: Another questionable and safe prediction, but the Gunners have been terrible for a long time. A victory over Boro, and recently against West Ham, is not fair reflection, as both sides are just not up to any decent standard this season. Leicester have been very good as of late, which pains me and the team here (after how they treated Claudio Ranieri). The snakes at the club have been damaging as of late, and I see Leicester getting something against an Arsenal side that might have had their FA Cup dreams shattered at the weekend.

GW Differential Picks:

Andros Townsend (CRY): End of season form is strong with this one.

Eric Bailly (MUN): One of the only fit defenders for United he is.

Ross Barkley (EVE): West Ham are rubbish, they are. Lukaku score he will.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Alvaro Negredo – The Spaniard is likely to play a lot of minutes, and has two favourable fixtures. I'd like to put it on Zlatan for obvious reasons, but I'm skeptical of his minutes. There are better options so I've left him out altogether, and I'm taking a punt on Negredo and Boro to pull off a Charlie Austin style DGW performance (one can wish!).

(VC) Romelu Lukaku – This has been explained above, and also plays into the Zlatan hype. A lot of players might take Lukaku out for the Swede, which is an unwise move given Lukaku's form against West Ham. Premier League records are there to be beaten, as are West Ham defenders (with relative ease).

Other Gameweek Comments:

If you've still got your wildcard left to play, just go and trust these Double Gameweek options. If they don't work out, so what? Just be very careful with Man United selections, they of the three teams have the players and availability to rotate, and will do so to further a miserable wait for their eventual team sheets.

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 34

Best GW Attacking Options:

I actually think Palace are full of attacking options and are the standout team for this week with their double. I expect Spurs to be as dominant as ever too. Man United shouldn’t be ignored in their double either.

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Middlesbrough need to be looked at with their double and favourable defensive fixtures. Man United again shouldn’t be ignored with their double. Not many other standout clean sheet potentials.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Zaha, Benteke, Gibson, Rashford

OUT: Vardy, McAuley, Valdes, Grant

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal

Who are the teams to avoid?:

West Brom, Sunderland, Watford

GW Differential Picks:

Ozil, Rashford, Townswend, Friend

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Christian Benteke

(VC): Marcus Rashford

Other Gameweek Comments:

It’s a double, but one that’s proving hard to get excited about. Manchester United are rotating like crazy amongst their Europa league endeavors, Crystal Palace have very difficult fixtures which don’t look appealing despite their recent form and Middlesbrough are, well Middlesbrough. However, as seasoned FPL players know, DGWs are powerful and we should all still be considering assets in all three teams.
