Wildcard Picks to Bolster your Squad during the International Break

With the Fantasy Premier League season in full swing and the international break upon us, now is the time to make an honest assessment of how your team is shaping up. Are they competitive? Or are they sinking like a stone? Either way, now is a good time to strengthen your position or pull out the wildcard and have a complete clear out. All aboard.

If your team has been under-performing, you need to do a player-by-player assessment and decide who needs to be shipped out or benched. And of course, you need to recruit new blood. Here are a few players who could help you to get your season back on track.

With Manchester City up against Stoke in the next game, there could be plenty of goals on the menu. The Potters are no longer the tight defensive unit they used to be and are prone to leaking goals at the back while the Sky Blues have been rampant in attack, netting 22 already this term.

Based on their current form, you might want to find a place for the evergreen David Silva and bargain of the year Gabriel Jesus in your starting XI. Both could bag you big points in the coming weeks as City look to cement their place at the top of the table.

If your defence needs a boost, you should look no further than Chelsea man Marcos Alonso. The former Real Madrid man has flourished since making the move to London and can provide clean sheets. Goals and assists from the full-back position.

Tottenham Hotpsur are in good shape, particularly away from home, with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen the standout players on the Fantasy Premier League radar. Kane may not be able to score in August but overall, he is prolific as they come and already has six league goals to his name this term. As a result, the Spurs striker is closing in on Lionel Messi, currently 1/9 to finish top scorer in the La Liga betting, and current Ballon d'Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo in the stats charts. Meanwhile, Eriksen already has two goals and two assists to his name from his seven appearances.

Other solid performers who could help your rear guard out without breaking the bank include Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles, and Swansea keeper Lukasz Fabianski. The Magpies have only let in six goals all season, a record only bettered by four teams. Boss Rafa Benitez knows all about keeping clean sheets and they look set to be one of the toughest teams to score against this season. What’s more, Lascelles is currently Newcastle’s joint-top scorer with two strikes from six starts.

Meanwhile, despite their lowly position, the Swans have only conceded eight goals all season and four of those came in one game. Paul Clement may not be able to get his team firing at the other end but they continue to keep things tight at the back. Fabianski might not be your first pick but he represents a cheap option to have on the bench.
