FANTASY FORECAST 2017/18: FPL Gameweek 29

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League the Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2017/18 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Fixture Prediction: Gameweek 29

Burnley 1-1 Everton

Leicester 2-0 Bournemouth

Southampton 1-1 Stoke

Spurs 3-0 Huddersfield

Swansea 1-0 West Ham

Watford 3-0 West Brom

Liverpool 4-0 Newcastle

Brighton 1-2 Arsenal

Man City 2-1 Chelsea

Crystal Palace 0-2 Man United

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 29

Best GW Attacking Options:

Leicester (H) vs. Bournemouth

Spurs (H) vs. Huddersfield

Watford (H) vs. West Brom

Liverpool (H) vs. Newcastle

Arsenal (A) vs. Brighton

Man City (H) vs. Chelsea

Man United (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Leicester (H) vs. Bournemouth

Spurs (H) vs. Huddersfield

Watford (H) vs. West Brom

Swansea (H) vs. West Ham

Liverpool (H) vs. Newcastle

Man United (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Lukasz Fabianski, Chris Smalling (DEF), Sadio Mane (MID), Jamie Vardy (FW)

OUT: Nick Pope (GK), Phil Jones (DEF), Raheem Sterling (MID), Alvaro Morata (FW)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

There are lots of potential options in defence, Holebas of Watford, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, Ben Chilwell of Leicester, Chris Smalling of Man United, Federico Fernandez of Swansea.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: Why would anyone back against them when their forward line is being heralded as one of, if not the very best, in the entire of Europe. Newcastle will be holding on for dear life at Anfield, I just can’t look past Mo Salah who has been firing on all cylinders this season.

Spurs: Comfortable home game for the Lilywhites comes off an excellent performance in the FA Cup replay against Rochdale who were obliterated, and Kane didn’t even touch the pitch. Huddersfield are on a good path, but Spurs are in that stride, and along with Liverpool are the essential options for the weekend.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Chelsea: Nobody wants to face Man City, and this week many fantasy managers will be benching Blues defenders. Chelsea don’t have a good record versus Man City, so can’t see any other result than a loss for Conte’s team.

West Ham: Swansea are a robust unit, and it might be one of them games with a goal in it. The Swans are fighting, and I expect them to put up a good fight against the visiting Hammers.

GW Differential Picks:

Players of differential value I believe are strong this week. Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson in Liverpool’s defence have a lot of potential value this week. Ederson of Man City could keep impressing as the Blues (who are stammering) travel to the Etihad. Troy Deeney has returned to form and plays the bottom team at home, so if you’re looking for real extreme options take the risk when big clubs create clashes in your team.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Mohamad Salah – There is no bad reason for captaining Salah in GW29. Man’s hot.

(VC): Harry Kane – Just like last week, the England international is my deputy, naturally.

Other Gameweek Comments:

The weather is a huge concern going into this Gameweek, in typical British fashion everyone is considering the worst with a blip of snow. Laced with Met Police safety concerns over icy roads, I can see at least one fixture go down to the wire and potentially be called off. If so, what a shame, this week has lots of potential plastered all over it.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Shaqiri, Vardy, Mahrez, one of the Greek Watford players (Holebas or Karnezis)

OUT: Sterling (fixtures look bad and is a slight concern no doubt)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

There are lots of potential options in defence, Holebas of Watford, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, Ben Chilwell of Leicester, Chris Smalling of Man United, Federico Fernandez of Swansea.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Burnley: Everton are that bad right now it might force a clean sheet out of Nick Pope and his defence.

Spurs: Goals and clean sheets incoming.

Liverpool: Goals and clean sheets incoming.

Man City: Goals and clean sheets incoming.

Watford: At least a goal, and maybe a clean sheet incoming.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Newcastle: Newcastle have been hard to break down in recent weeks, but The King of Egypt won't be denied twice by Rafa Benitez.

West Ham: They're getting slightly closer to the relegation zone. It might just happen, and on a selfish note, I hope it does. This West Ham team offers nothing.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Mohamad Salah – There is no debate, captain this man. Liverpool destroyed Porto in the Champions League, so the first team will play here without any worry of rotation.

(VC): Harry Kane – Scored twice last time out against Huddersfield, but has more of an eye to the Champions League (and rightfully so), so the Spurs squad might be managed more than it would usually be.

Other Gameweek Comments:

This Gameweek is literally the same as the last in terms of the fixtures, so it will all be about seizing returns from Spurs, Liverpool, and Man City options. Everything, including the weather, is up in the air and might plummet the quality of the football at hand with frozen players on pitches.

Crystal Palace 0-1 Man United

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 29

Best GW Attacking Options:

Salah, Kane, Firmino, Mahrez

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Spurs, Man Utd, Arsenal

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Ahead of Gameweek 31, it’s looking like there a few players who are essential. 3 Liverpool a must, but I think Shaqiri with 3 goals in the last 3 games is looking a worthy buy for 31.

OUT: I’d be looking to get rid of Otamendi or Alonso if you owned them and try to redistribute those funds elsewhere if you can.

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Aubameyang. With him ineligible for the UEL, he has only the league to focus on until the end of the season and he’s only got United from the top 6 to play until the end of the season. Big differential ahead.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

I’ve mentioned Arsenal already, but Huddersfield could be a decent between 30-34 as they play teams around them in must-win match-ups. Their players are low owned, especially attackers – Mounie at 1%, VLP/Pritchard 0.1% - but could play a big role in those games in keeping them up if they (as surely they have) are hyper-motivated for those games.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

I’d say avoid Brighton. They only have one game remaining that is below 3 on the FPL FDR (Huddersfield home in 33) and play 5 of the top 6 in their remaining matches. Plus Dunk – who I own – can’t seem to stop sticking it in his own net.

GW Differential Picks:

Janmaat, Ozil, Antonio

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Salah

(VC): Kane

Other Gameweek Comments:

This Gameweek arguably marks the high-water mark in the Kane v Salah debate, with both having great fixtures and both in form (though Salah’s form is exceptional: two figure returns in 48% of his games played so far). I’m looking forward to seeing how it shakes out!

As well as providing FPL articles on our website, we are a founding Contributor to the new Fantasy Football Hub, where you can find more unique articles, including weekly Power Rankings, from The Hype Team. You can support us and read exclusive members only content for just £2 per-month by clicking here.

The Hype Train were nominated and shortlisted for the 'Best Football Blog 2016' by the Football Bloggers Association at their annual Football Blogging Awards (The FBA's), with the final presentation held at Old Trafford in Manchester.
