MLS Fantasy 2018: Gameweek 15 Review - Player of the Week

After each round of matches for MLS Fantasy players, we'll be providing our Player of the Week, the player who we think is deserving of top spot, even if they didn't finish on the most points for a week. We'll take a look at the impact the player is having on his team, as well as the MLS Fantasy returns that they are providing. Strap in, it's time to get nostalgic. All aboard.

MLS Fantasy: Gameweek 16

For the 2018 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Gameweek progresses.

You can view the schedule and a real time Gameweek deadline countdown clock (in the London GMT timezone) on our dedicated MLS Fantasy page.

MLS Fantasy Week 15 - Player of the Week: Alphonso Davies (Vancouver)

Quietly going about their business in the Western Conference, Vancouver are steadily cementing their credentials in a play-off spot come the end of the season. The Canadian side have scored 14 goals in their last 5 league matches, with a recent 5-2 home victory against Orlando City registering a 5th MLS match without defeat.

Vancouver have played 16 games so far this season, more than any team in the West, and sit 4th in their respective division on 24 points, with 9 points from their latest performances on the pitch.

Vancouver Whitecaps's Last 5 MLS Results

Week 12: Vancouver Whitecaps 2-2 San Jose Earthquakes

Week 12: FC Dallas 2-2 Vancouver Whitecaps

Week 13: Vancouver Whitecaps 3-3 New England Revolution

Week 14: Colorado Rapids 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps

Week 15: Vancouver Whitecaps 5-2 Orlando City

The great unpredictability about MLS is that we've no idea where this league is taking us from a creative point of view. One week, like the last, we're talking about the scoring exploits of Atlanta's Josef Martinez, and then due to the quick turnaround in form, you're talking about an explosive performance by rapid winger Alphonso Davies.

Alphonso Davies's Week 15 Points - New England Revolution 5-2 Atlanta United:

90 mins played: 2pts

1 goal: 5pts

3 assists: 9pts

5 key passes: 1pt

1 big chance created: 1pt

Fouled 4 times: 1pt

Total: 19pts

Without hesitation, Alphonso Davies is our Player of the Week. The winger's only real competition was from Toronto's Johnathan Osorio or LA Galaxy's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Dallas's Mauro Diaz a dark-horse when considering the impact one player can have for MLS Fantasy players.

This week's pick is purely for Davies's efforts on the pitch, which were enjoyed by an admirable 12.88% of MLS Fantasy players - just remember though that Davies was a popular pick for Gameweek 1 and since then the active players in the game looks to have dropped significantly.

We'd recommend you view the highlights, which is just a repeating action of Davies skinning his opposition full-back for pace on the wing and having the ability to pick his teammates out with pinpoint crossing ability. If you've never watched an MLS match, Davies is only 17 years old and is lightning-quick, which suits Vancouver's counter attacks. Davies's goal which came after a blistering run, was his first since the opening day of the season.

Davies was a delight to watch during a one-man demolition of an Orlando City squad that can't buy a victory right now after winning 6 consecutive matches less than 2 months ago. There is massive promise with Davies in the league, and he's exactly the type of North American that we've been looking to make the breakthrough into a top football league - fast, athletic, and everything we're not used to seeing from homegrown players in the United States and Canada. Exciting, bold, fearless, and modern.

We just hope that Davies is able to provide viewers with more glimpses of his quality between now and the end of the season. If Vancouver do get to the play-offs, Davies will be a vital cog when it matters big in MLS this season.

MLS Fantasy players will have to wait until Gameweek 17's away fixture against Philadelphia Union to see Davies in action against Philadelphia Union away from home, which is the first fixture.
