MLS Fantasy 2018: Gameweek 21 Review - Player of the Week

After each round of matches for MLS Fantasy players, we'll be providing our Player of the Week, the player who we think is deserving of top spot, even if they didn't finish on the most points for a week. We'll take a look at the impact the player is having on his team, as well as the MLS Fantasy returns that they are providing. Strap in, it's time to get nostalgic. All aboard.

MLS Fantasy: Gameweek 22

For the 2018 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Gameweek progresses.

You can view the schedule and a real time Gameweek deadline countdown clock (in the London GMT timezone) on our dedicated MLS Fantasy page.

MLS Fantasy Week 21 - Player of the Week: Darwin Quintero (MIN)

We're fast approaching the final week in the 'Spring Season' for the 2018 MLS Fantasy season, and one of the closing acts that delighted audiences was the unlikely source of Adrian Heath's Minnesota United.

Minnesota and New England were the only sides in Week 21's Double Gameweek, with the latter becoming a footnote, allowing the free-flowing attack of The Loons to take centre stage.

Heath's side beat New England 2-1 at home in midweek thanks to goals from Christian Ramirez and the electric Darwin Quintero. To close Week 21, Minnesota then demolished LAFC 5-1 at home, with Ramirez netting twice, Quintero adding to his tally, and Ibarra and Schuller adding the icing on the cake.

Christian Ramirez was the top MLS Fantasy this past week with 25 points, though it was Darwin Quintero who blew us all away this week, to earn our Player of the Week accolade.

Darwin Quintero's Week 21 Points - Minnesota 2-1 New England Revolution:

89 mins played: 2pts

1 goal: 5pts

4 key passes: 1pt

5 fouls won: 1pt

Yellow card: -1pts

Total: 8pts

Darwin Quintero's Week 21 Points - Minnesota 5-1 LAFC:

90 mins played: 2pts

1 goal: 5pts

2 assists: 6pts

4 key passes: 1pt

7 shots: 1pt

Total: 15pts

Darwin Quintero entered Week 21 as the major captaincy consideration for Fantasy players, with his hype and expectation not surpassing him or Minnesota this week. Hard to break down, compact, and well drilled from set-pieces, Quintero is the pivotal member of the attack that is used to counter on teams.

Filled with pace, power, high-speed dribbling ability and a clinical edge in the opposition box, a brace of goals and assists from 2 goals highlights his necessity in driving United's attack to a new level that they'd never seen before.

Over the two games, Quintero impressed more in the 2-1 victory over New England. Quintero proved a menace in breaking defensive lines, with The Revolution unable to handle his directness and finesse. Against LAFC, a rotated travelling side showed Quintero a high-line to exploit, with his goal a burst through the middle and a free shot at goal.

a haul of 23 points in MLS Fantasy who only bettered by Christian Ramirez, who was out to prove a point with the club on the look for a new Designated Played in a Forward position.

With 127 points in the bag, Quintero finds himself level with Gyasi Zardes (Columbus) and Bradley Wright-Phillips in the points charts, though has played 16 matches, with is 6 fewer than Zardes (22 apps) and BWP (19 appearances).

Minnesota travel to Vancouver Whitecaps at the weekend, and are not one of the 8 teams involved in the upcoming Double Gameweek, which makes Quintero's involvement an unlikely one with some heavy hitters among those featuring twice.
