MLS Fantasy 2018: Gameweek 22 Review - Player of the Week

After each round of matches for MLS Fantasy players, we'll be providing our Player of the Week, the player who we think is deserving of top spot, even if they didn't finish on the most points for a week. We'll take a look at the impact the player is having on his team, as well as the MLS Fantasy returns that they are providing. Strap in, it's time to get nostalgic. All aboard.

MLS Fantasy: Gameweek 23

For the 2018 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Gameweek progresses.

You can view the schedule and a real time Gameweek deadline countdown clock (in the London GMT timezone) on our dedicated MLS Fantasy page.

MLS Fantasy Week 22 - Player of the Week: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (LA)

The MLS Fantasy Spring Season has wrapped, with its final match proving to be unforgettable for the league. LA Galaxy's 4-3 home victory against Orlando City proved to be the night that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic bag his first hat-trick in MLS, putting him at the summit of contention ahead of Vancouver's Alphonso Davies, who had a sensational week for the Whitecaps against Minnesota.

The only place to start though is with Zlatan, whose 29 points was unmatched this week following a brace of entertaining matches.

Ibrahimovic's 141 MLS Fantasy points was the 7th best overall tally for the Spring Season (Week's 1-22). Zlatan did not feature until Week 5.

Zlatan's Week 22 Points - LAFC 2-2 LA Galaxy:

90 mins played: 2pts

1 assist: 3pts

4 key passes: 1pt

1 big chance created: 1pt

Total: 7pts

Zlatan's Week 22 Points - LA Galaxy 4-3 Orlando City:

90 mins played: 2pts

3 goals: 15pts

1 assist: 3pts

3 key passes: 1pt

9 shots: 2pts

Yellow card: -1pt

Total: 22pts

Zlatan has been on fire, managing to climb the Forward charts in MLS Fantasy, with 141 points only bettered by Atlanta's Josef Martinez, with 192 points. In the overall Top 10 tallies, Ibra's 17 appearances is the fewest alongside Minnesota's Darwin Quintero, with Zlatan's climb hitting new heights after 3 goals and 2 assists in Week 22.

A 7 point performance against LAFC could have been far greater should the woodwork not have denied Zlatan, who did assist Ola Kamara for a late equaliser, whilst his treble against Orlando was all about pin-point bullet headers that no goalkeeper on the planet could really do anything about.

Zlatan's presence in the box has turned him into a special weapon for LA Galaxy, and one they seriously need given their reputation as a side that cannot defend. It's all out attack, with LA moving up to 3rd in the Western Conference, just a single point behind neighbours, LAFC (who have a game in hand over The Galaxy).

Ibra's ability to produce noise around the footballing world has worked its magic again, with all eyes on MLS as a self-professed God marked his finest hour in style with a first, and deserved, treble.

Due to suspension, Zlatan will miss the All Star encounter with Juventus, and won't feature against lowly Colorado Rapids, which is a great shame given his form right now. That's what happens when you celebrate your first hat-trick by removing your shirt. Perhaps it was a deliberate act to keep Ibrahimovic from playing in the match as LA Galaxy mount a serious bid for play-offs this season, and if that is the case then it is probably the best outcome for Fantasy players as they head towards the beginning of the Fall Season this weekend.
