FANTASY FORECAST 2018/19: FPL Gameweek 12

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League, The Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Special Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 12 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We ask the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The three members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead.

For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties that will feature throughout the season.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 12

Best GW Attacking Options:

West Ham (A) vs. Huddersfield

Leicester (H) vs. Burnley

Bournemouth (A) vs. Newcastle

Spurs (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Liverpool (H) vs. Fulham

Chelsea (H) vs. Everton

Arsenal (H) vs. Wolves

Man City (H) vs. Man United

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Brighton (A) vs. Cardiff

West Ham (A) vs. Huddersfield

Watford (A) vs. Southampton

Spurs (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Liverpool (H) vs. Fulham

Man City (H) vs. Man United

Who are your essential Gameweek player picks?:

Mohamad Salah. Xherdan Shaqiri. Alisson. That is what I would be saying if Liverpool hadn’t recently lost to Red Star Belgrade. They were woeful. So, I choose Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero, and Harry Kane.

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Leicester defenders. West Ham defenders. Chelsea midfielders. Brighton defenders. Man City forwards. I also like the look of Bournemouth assets too.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Chelsea: The Blues are on fire and with Morata even scoring it is all roses for the London club. Everton could be overwhelmed by Hazard and company this weekend.

Arsenal: Celebrating the draw over Liverpool like it was a win was the most Arsenal thing you could imagine. That said, Arsenal are still unbeaten, and I can’t see them losing to Wolves.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Fulham: No clean sheet this season, and of all places they are going to Anfield. Liverpool have struggled in recent weeks, but they have beaten Huddersfield and Cardiff lately, which doesn’t bode well for the Cottagers.

Man United: The Manche$ter Derby is upon us, and with the Red Devils recent fixtures being a turbulent patch of form, it could once again be a blue Manchester at the end of the weekend.

GW Differential Picks:

I think there is plenty of offensive returns this week and in terms of forwards I think the trio of Glenn Murray, Jamie Vardy, and Alvaro Morata are huge players being underestimated this Gameweek. There are plenty of other midfield picks too like David Brooks, Mesut Ozil, and Xherdan Shaqiri. I felt spoilt when picking this week’s picks for GW12.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Mohamad Salah – Against Fulham at home, who else is there other than the King of Egypt? Liverpool must bounce back, and with Fulham without a clean sheet all season it could be a huge Gameweek for the Reds.

(VC): Alexandre Lacazette – The Frenchman is on fire, and with a clinical strike against Liverpool it is hard to dispute the form.

Who are your essential Gameweek player picks?:

Usual suspects: ARM (Alonso, Robertson, Mendy), Salah/Mane, Eden Hazard

Unlikely heroes: Roberto Firmino

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Newcastle: Buses always come in pairs...

Cardiff/Brighton: The blinkers are on, but this one looks like a stalemate.

Huddersfield: Here to ruin the Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnuatovic welcoming party for FPL players...?

Watford: Mark Hughes isn't long for the Premier League if form continues (and I hope it is the case, he offers nothing for the Saints)

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Man City / Man United: Man City looked vulnerable at the back against Southampton, despite winning 6-1, so Anthony Martial will probably fancy his chances this weekend. Raheem Sterling has also played 90 minutes in his last 2 games. He probably won't play for a month now.

Everton: They tend to fold big when playing Top 6 teams.

Leicester: No Maddison, No Maguire. A surprise loss incoming?

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Sadio Mane – Mo Salah isn't the one slicing through defences this season, Mane is. He's the danger man and could destroy a weaker right-hand side for Fulham.

(VC): Eden Hazard – Should be back in contention this weekend, and if so, could continue a fine habit of goals and assists.

  1. Liverpool (H) vs Fulham

  2. Brighton (A) vs Cardiff

  3. Leicester (H) vs Burnley

  4. West Ham (A) vs Huddersfield

  5. Bournemouth (A) vs Newcastle

Who are your essential Gameweek player picks?:

Salah & Mane should run riot. Robertson, Sterling & Arnautovic are also up there.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea & West Ham all have favourable matchups, with 3 of the 4 playing at home as well.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Fulham, Burnley & Huddersfield are 3 of the worse teams in the league from both an offensive & defensive perspective. Avoiding them every week is probably a good idea.

GW Differential Picks:

Felipe Anderson, Alvaro Morata, Ricardo Pereira & Nathan Ake are all solid picks this week with under 5% ownership in FPL.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Salah – Liverpool’s most attacking player is against Fulham.

(VC) Mane – Liverpool’s 2nd most attacking player is against Fulham.

Other Gameweek Comments:

It could very well be the last time we see Slavisa Jokanovic in the Fulham dugout, assuming he even makes it to the weekend following the shambolic GW11 loss at Huddersfield. Tony Pulis, anyone?

Leicester will also host Burnley in their first home game since the tragic loss of their owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. If you thought they were going to be up for the away trip to Cardiff last week, just wait to see how up for this one they’ll be.

And finally, I think the Manchester derby will reveal exactly how much of a gulf in class there is between City and United this season. Rashford will probably snatch a late consolation goal, but an otherwise dominant City display is very much on the cards here.
