CAPTAINCY HYPE 2018/19: FPL Gameweek 21

Picking a Captain to double down on in the Fantasy Premier League is the most important question asked ahead of each of the 38 Gameweek's in the Premier League season. There's a lot of self-help out there for FPL enthusiasts, with our Hype Team providing three major considerations for the armband for each and every Gameweek. We'll be detailing the Essential choice for captain, a popular alternative that's pushing the consensus, and a Wildcard pick to add to the chaos. Captaincy can make of break a Gameweek so strap in tightly, it's time to lose your marbles. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 21 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page

CAPTAINCY HYPE: THE ESSENTIAL PICK

Our Essential picks for captain are selected each and every week on our main Twitter account, @RealHypeTrain, with four highly selected FPL options battling it out for alpha status amongst fellow FPL players.

Gameweek 21: Essential Captain

Player: Eden Hazard

Position: Midfielder

GW21 Fixture: Southampton (H)

Player Price: £11.1mil

Player Selection %: 38.6

We are surprised that Harry Kane didn't win this pole, if Spurs would have beaten Wolves it begs the question if that would have changed. Also, Aubameyang has the early fixture which is always a risk. Eden Hazard won because Chelsea play at home, it is as simple as that. The people voted and the Belgian is your captain for the first week of 2019.

CAPTAINCY HYPE: THE ALTERNATIVE PICK

Our Alternative selection for captain typically commands a smaller FPL ownership percentage, but can be reserved for The Hype Train's own gut instincts on who could be captaincy inspiration.

Gameweek 21: Alternative Captain

Player: Marcus Rashford

Position: Forward

GW21 Fixture: Newcastle (A)

Player Price: £7.2mil

Player Selection %: 19.6

If reports were to be true, Ole Gunnar Solskjær is going to be basing his attack on the England international. He has been in great form since the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho as the interim for Man United, and with debate over the purpose of Lukaku it is clear that the younger of the two will be given his chance. Newcastle have struggled at home this season and if the Red Devil's scoring streak continues then so will Newcastle's horrible home record.

CAPTAINCY HYPE: THE WILDCARD PICK

Our Wildcard selection is one of the ten differential picks that is featured in our Weekly Wildcards article. This captaincy selection has a very small percentage of owners in the FPL, and is our left field option.

Gameweek 21: Wildcard Captain

Player: Marko Arnautovic

Position: Forward

GW21 Fixture: Brighton (H)

Player Price: £6.9mil

Player Selection %: 6.8

Here we are again, ending the differentials with a West Ham forward. Although, the first time we have picked Arnautovic after his long injury layoff ended. The Austrian’s return couldn’t come at a better time for Count Pellegrini and West Ham after injury to Chicharito, as the alternative option was to play Andy Carroll who had only recently returned from injury and we all know what is in store for him sooner rather than later. Marko has proved his quality this season, and alongside Felipe Anderson has been West Ham’s most important player. Linking together the attack and midfield, Marko excels at running between the channels to cause havoc, working alongside Snodgrass and Felipe to try and unhinge the leagues defences.

Arnautovic isn’t a player we feel that must be sold to you, he has eight attacking returns from fourteen games this season (five goals, three assists) which is a solid performance so far to his season, so we know that when he plays there is a good chance that he is involved in the Hammers goal output. West Ham are in themselves an ultimate differential…they either show up and are electric, or, as was the case against Burnley only a few days ago, they are a shadow of their potential. Hosting Brighton should be a favourable fixture for the Hammers, the Seagulls have a torrid away record and their points are concentrated mostly at the Amex. It is fitting we select a player now forgotten after a promising start to captain our differentials, he was once owned by nearly 1.4million players, and now it is around the 377,928 mark, pretty much eliminating all the live players that once had him and leaving all the inactive dead teams representing his entire ownership. Arnautovic is in a position where he must start to win back that once great following to where he is now a differential for the first time this entire season.
