FANTASY FIVE PICKS 2019/20: FPL Gameweek 1

Ahead of each Gameweek of the FPL season, we have introduced a new Community feature to our website, Fantasy Five's. The premise is quite simple, The Hype Team and a weekly guest will compete against each other in picking 5 players - a Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Forward and a captaincy pick that is a wildcard that can be of any position or club - the winner of the week is the person with the most points at the end of the Gameweek. The only other rule is that the 4 first picks have to be players from different clubs. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 1 Deadline

For the 2019/20 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. Our website provides a real-world countdown timer for the the upcoming Gameweek, whilst you can read our latest Fantasy articles from the season on our 2019/20 FPL weekly hype sub-section.

Gameweek 1 - Fantasy 5 Picks: Sam Austin

Gameweek Insight:

"Liverpool have a delightful opening fixture against Norwich, of whom they have had a history of Luis Suarez tormenting them. I see offensive and defensive assets being crucial so Robertson and Salah are in.

I don't see Brighton being the same without Chris Hughton, so Foster gets the nod in goal. Sterling is most likely going to play in an advanced attacking role against a West Ham defence that hasn't changed over the summer. Lastly, I think it would be foolish to look past Spurs with a fully fit Harry Kane against Villa at the new stadium."

Gameweek 1 - Fantasy 5 Picks: Phil Jones

Twitter Handle: @HypeTrainPhil

Gameweek Insight:

Phil has opted for Ben Foster to keep out Brighton this week, and like everyone else, is pinning his hopes on left-back Andrew Robertson for Liverpool against Norwich.

With transfer speculation surrounding Wilfried Zaha all summer, Phil has also opted for the Ivorian to be the key man that topples Everton this weekend, the club that he was rumoured to join.

In attack, Phil isn't thinking twice with Argentine, Sergio Aguero, for an away day at West, whilst Phil is the only one to not captain Salah, instead banking on Harry Kane at home against Aston Villa to get points on the board.

Gameweek 1 - Fantasy 5 Picks: Robert Austin

Twitter Handle: @HypeTrainRob

Gameweek Insight:

"The strength of any good team in FPL is in picking the right defensive assets. Given the preparations to the new season, there are no better picks than Ederson and Robertson, especially as the GK position is a tricky position to fill this season for Fantasy players.

Christian Eriksen, who want out of Spurs, has had a good pre-season in a Spurs side that is winning, so could be the forgotten man to out-score his premium rivals, whilst everyone and their pets are banking on Bournemouth to beat newly-promoted Sheffield United on the opening day. With Dom Solanke pushing for minutes, Wilson looks the lock of The Cherries' attack ahead of Josh King.

Captaincy sorts itself out this week, with Mo Salah the outright favourite to get the job done against Norwich at Anfield. Why resist the inevitable?"

Gameweek 1 - Fantasy 5 Picks: Who Got The Assist?

Twitter Handle: @WGTA_FPL

Gameweek Insight:

Speaking with Tom from WGTA this evening, he just wanted to get across that his selections were self-explanatory, with his picks covering the teams with good fixtures and FPL appeal.

Jordan Pickford is braved as the only Everton defender featured this week, whilst Andrew Robertson completes a clean sweep of selections. Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah are favoured in the attacking roles - though fitting the trio in to your Gameweek 1 squad is one hell of a challenge.
