FANTASY FORECAST 2019/20: FPL Gameweek 1

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League, The Hype Train's three front-men, Robert Austin, Sam Austin and Phil Jones, duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for each round of games. In addition, we provide general insight that we believe might be relevant for FPL players, such as our personal captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 1 Deadline

For the 2019/20 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. Our website provides a real-world countdown timer for the the upcoming Gameweek, whilst you can read our latest Fantasy articles from the season on our 2019/20 FPL weekly hype sub-section.

How does our Forecasting work?

For three years we invited guests from the FPL Community to tackle us with picks for the upcoming Gameweek in Fantasy Premier League. We'll be taking a break from inviting guests onto this article for a year, and have introduced a new feature, Fantasy 5's, which we'll be asking weekly guests their top pick in each position ahead of each Gameweek.

For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties that will feature throughout the season.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: Gameweek 1

Liverpool 3-0 Norwich

West Ham 0-2 Man City

Bournemouth 4-0 Sheffield United

Burnley 3-1 Southampton

Crystal Palace 1-2 Everton

Watford 1-0 Brighton

Spurs 3-0 Aston Villa

Leicester 1-1 Wolves

Newcastle 2-1 Arsenal

Man United 1-2 Chelsea

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 1

First names in your FPL team:

Mohamad Salah, Harry Kane, Andrew Robertson, and Ryan Fraser.

Who are the teams to look out for and avoid?:

Arsenal – Avoid: I think that if there is one surprise this Gameweek it will be Arsenal’s trip to St James Park. Because the Gunners defence hasn’t changed, I can see Joelinton grabbing a debut goal in front of the Gallagher end.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) – Mohamad Salah (LIV): Looking lively against Man City in the Community Shield, I can see Salah morph into Luis Suarez when the Canaries return to Anfield.

(VC) – Harry Kane (TOT): I’m getting nostalgic, before Kane’s injury that ruled him out of the second half of last season, as Kane is usually my deputy captain behind Salah. Against Villa the odds look likely of seeing Kane on the scoresheet.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Welcome back to the Premier League, a time when we look to resettle old scores in the FPL. I can’t physically see my dream team, give me an extra £20mil in budget and I’ll give you it, but this could be the year of the inspired differential which I expertise in. Check in weekly to see who I think may be forgotten about in the season.

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 1

First names in your FPL team:

Mo Salah

Andy Robertson

Virgil van Dijk

Sergio Aguero

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Who are the teams to look out for and avoid?:

Chelsea – Avoid: Wait and see about their team and performance. Lampard is unproven and has a young squad. Man United have strengthened defensively so it's an interesting game to call.

Newcastle - Avoid: As a Newcastle fan, I'm just not convinced by our business this summer. We have an awful fixture list and have lost Rafa Benitez. The effects of Bruce's arrival might sink us in our opening 10 games.

Promoted Teams: Sheffield United, Norwich and Aston Villa are all travelling on the first day of the season (shocker). I don't think they offer anything for FPL players, so avoid at all costs.

Bournemouth: They might have lofty prices, but The Cherries have the best two fixtures to start the season. Wilson is likely to be a big hitting option in the first couple of weeks.

What will make your FPL team change too much?

Transfer deadline day is well under way and as of writing Spurs have just had a move for Dybala called off. Lukaku is off to Inter, Newcastle have sgiend a right-back, David Luiz is set to sign for Arsenal... Today will impact on some of my final moves ahead of tomorrow's FPL deadline.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) – Mohamad Salah (LIV): The King of FPL has Liverpool's best fixture up first. It's a given that most will captain Mo.

(VC) – Sergio Aguero (MCI): With Harry Kane in August territory, I'm looking elsewhere and believe that Aguero rotates will with Mo Salah as a captaincy option.
