Premier League 2020/21: Gameweek 6 Fixtures
Aston Villa, who have won each of their opening four Premier League matches this season, start Gameweek 6 by welcoming Leeds to Villa Park, whilst there are big clashes involving Man United hosting Chelsea and Arsenal welcoming Leicester. The wider FPL populace will be made to wait this week for the Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane show, as Spurs are last on away at Burnley to close the fixture list.

Who are the teams to look out for and avoid?:
Everton (Avoid & Watch): The bell has been run in the Merseyside Derby, and now they face the former Liverpool Academy away from home. Danny Ings versus Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a huge clash on the weekend, one that could negate each other.
Leicester (Avoid): Brendan Rodgers is once again showing why he struggles at man management, the game could have been won again Villa, but not providing service to their forwards, and bringing on more DM’s hurt them. I can see Arsenal having a field day against the Foxes.
Wolves (Watch): I can see this as a routine win for Wolves, and in todays game, that is worth its weight in gold now.
Aston Villa (Watch): I can see another Villa win this week, and I think they have a lot of clean sheet potential in this fixture, as well as attacking flair.

Yeah, this is a strange one. Mohamad Salah’s ownership dominance has finally seen Sadio Mane slip under 8.0% ownership for the first time in a long while. This opportunity may not exist again if the Senegalese forward goes on a run of form, and the Liverpool team look to unite after the injustice that occurred at Goodison Park last weekend. Mane is one of the best finishers in the league, and a home game against an out-of-form Sheffield United is the perfect medicine to recover from the heartbreak of losing Virgil van Dijk due to a season ending injury.

Top FPL player targets this weekend:
Injuries to Virgil van Dijk (ownership currently dropping at 15.4%) against Everton, as well as James Rodriguez (40.4% ownership) opens the door for some new faces to grace your teams.
With James, it is a little more complicated as the attacking midfielder has just hit the £8.0m mark and is not worth removing if you’ve had the Columbian from the start of the season. Let’s say you were going to make the move though, my personal choices for replacement, as a one-week move only, would likely be Jack Grealish (£7.2m) in the same price bracket, or Ross Barkley (£6.0m) slightly down the pecking order on price, with Villa hosting Leeds. One serious contender though that would be my absolute go-to is Wilfried Zaha (£7.2m) away at Fulham. The Ivorian has some superb fixtures, is on set-pieces, with the entire team centred on getting the best out of the tricky winger.
VVD’s long-term ACL injury means a transfer is mandatory if you own him. What I’ve done is drop points to get in both Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) for Virgil, and have had a spare pit of pocket change to upgrade a £4.0m defender to Tyrone Mings (£5.2m). Liverpool won’t offer the same protection defensively without VVD, though signs of life that they might be a compact side are still alive after a very solid display away at Ajax, especially with Fabinho stepping up in central defence.
Let’s say Liverpool are just not at the races though, we need another defensive team to step in and there’s only a few hopes – Man City and Spurs in particular – though both look like they’ll concede a few on the counter due to their expansive play further up the field.
Who are the teams to look out for and avoid?:
Wolves (Watch): Newcastle just don’t have a clue. I’ve been watching my beloved Magpies all season and can’t believe some of the decisions being made. Using Miguel Almiron as a bit-part player to favour lumpy midfielders that offer very little makes little sense. There is no creative sense in the team and we’ve only benefitted from having an actual outlet in attack. Wolves should get a routine home win in this one as we shouldn’t be able to contain their pace in attack.
Spurs (Watch): Burnley have a few injuries to contend with and look paper thin as a squad, which is all setting up for the assist machine, Harry Kane, and the real goal threat at Spurs, Heung-Min Son, to deliver the goods again.
Man City (Watch): Pep’s team typically play well on bigger pitches and have benefitted from trips to the London Stadium before. If some of their FPL options weren’t priced out of existence, they might offer some real value.
Brighton (Watch): Anyone going up against a West Brom side who will lack goals this season should be noted. Mat Ryan in goal and 34-point Neal Maupay, might be the differential picks if you’ve not got a lot of pocket change.
Fulham (Avoid): I’m not sold on the Mitrovic hype as Fulham look very suspect defensively. Wilfried Zaha should have a field day when Palace visit their London neighbours.
Southampton & Everton (Potentially Avoid): The only outcome when two teams with in-form attackers play is that it is either a high-scoring game, or 0-0. Without James Rodriguez, and both sides competent defensively, there’s a good chance that their FPL stars might be subdued for a week, especially with James Rodriguez potentially out of commission for the game.
Arsenal & Leicester (Avoid): A game with many alarm bells from an FPL perspective. A lot will own Justin and Castagne, whilst Aubameyang is highly owned still. Will probably end in heartbreak for both parties.
Aston Villa (Watch): ‘I prefer not to speak.’
Gameweek 6 - FPL Captaincy Picks:
Essential: Mohamed Salah (LIV)
Alternative: Raul Jimenez (WOL)
Differential: Neal Maupay (BHA)
There’s no reason to doubt Mohamed Salah at home – it’s been a proven policy and with 48 points already it has been a great start. Nobody has a leg to stand on though if Son or Kane get the armband this weekend, both are going through fine patches of form and it looks like at a whim both could get 15-20 points in FPL. My brain keeps telling me though that these returns just can’t hold up, though we are in extraordinary times and the intensity levels aren’t there without the fans, so maybe these numbers will hold up.
Other Gameweek Comments:
I’m feeling a little disenfranchised with the Premier League this season, so have been seething with the general direction of the league. I’m a Newcastle fan that doesn’t go on Twitter posting corruption pictures on every Premier League post, but I think my head’s gone with the entire situation.
Add on top the £15 pay-per-view charges for every match, the ridiculous ‘Project Big Picture’ concept and the likely realised ‘European Premier League’ forming, there is absolutely no doubt that football is running away from normal people and as a result it is making me pay less attention to its products and services – the FPL is one such service in particular has been testing my ‘loyalty’ to top-flight English football as my mental degradation towards the sporting elite continues.
Football chiefs need to ask everyone what is best for the game, rather than flocking to empowered venture capitalists from across the world that want to shore up their sizeable investments to make a quick buck at the game’s expense. We can't have football turn into a protected franchise sport like in America - it will kill the love of the game for millions and millions of people the world over.
Maybe it is time for the masses to flock to local football where fans and casuals can still make a positive impact, especially in a time of hardship due to Covid-19.
