Weekly Wildcards: Gameweek Thirty-Seven

Every week The Hype Train analyses the best wildcard options for your Fantasy Premier League teams. Historically weekly dream team’s comprise of mostly wildcard players whose selection falls under 5% of overall players, to which there is no doubt that their influence cannot be ignored. With such an abundance of points coming from the FPL’s hidden gems The Hype Train selects one player from each match in the upcoming gameweek to decide who could be the differential for your teams.

LAST WEEKS PERFORMANCE (GW 36)

More rotation, huge risks, and Leicester City become the Premier League champions. After what feels like a long week we reflect back on last week and the 50/50 success of the wildcards that we had. Townsend came up big in Newcastle’s relegation efforts, and Deeney starred in what is likely to be his final appearance in the wildcards because he is now owned by over five percent of players ahead of GW37. All season it took Deeney to climb out of the low selected grouping of players, and it is justification for some amazing performances that have kept his team in the Premier League for next season. The only drop-out was Adam Lallana who was saved for Europa League competition, and of course he scored to make us think that should he have played he’d have been a good option to have.

Rotation is the words on everyone’s mouths at the moment and trying to pick wildcards is becoming difficult at this stage of the season as players who could play are being dropped for someone else across all the teams. Nether less someone will come out of nowhere next week to surprise everyone.

TEAM OF THE WEEK WILDCARDS

Eight wildcards out of the eleven, so no new surprises on the overwhelming contribution to those who are not trusted enough by the FPL community. West Ham and Everton both had two players in the dream team but apart from this everyone else involved had stellar individual performances. Karl Darlow made a crucial penalty save which could keep Newcastle in the league; Ayew sunk the club he supports in Liverpool in the Swans emphatic win over the Reds. Kelechi Iheanacho also showed more class as he made a big claim to his potential for seasons to come, and of course in the same game Sadio Mane comes up big with his second Premier League hat-trick.

As we bid farewell to Troy Deeney we will look forward to embracing whoever makes the cut next week in a double gameweek for eight teams. Some surprising names will feature; the problem is…nobody can seem to figure out who from week to week.

Wildcards: Darlow, Baines, Mane, Noble, Cleverley, Kouyate, Deeney, Iheanacho (8)

Non-Wildcards: Monreal, Morgan, Ayew (3)

Points achieved by wildcards: 112pts

Points achieved by non-wildcards: 32pts
