FPL FORECAST 2016/17: Gameweek 22

Each and every week the three members of The Hype Team post their Premier League and FPL predictions in an attempt to enlighten players that might be stuck with their FPL choices and transfers. In addition, we’ll be taking on a guest for every Gameweek in the PL. On the weekly agenda are a general predictions category, a Gameweek Fantasy Premier League forecast, scout picks, and captaincy choices. For Gameweek 22 of the season, we welcome @FPLPriceChanges as our next guest. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 22 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

The transfer deadline for GW21 is Saturday 21st January 2017 at 11:30am.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of the first edition of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interest parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions (Mark Lawrenson style, only less biased, hopefully) and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast.A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, the wildcard differential players, and general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2016/17 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Best GW Attacking Options:

Liverpool (H) vs. Swansea

Arsenal (H) vs. Burnley

Chelsea (H) vs. Hull

Spurs (A) vs. Man City

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Liverpool (H) vs. Swansea

Bournemouth (H) vs. Watford

Arsenal (H) vs. Burnley

Chelsea (H) vs. Hull

West Brom (H) vs. Sunderland

Sunderland (A) vs. West Brom

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Coutinho, Alonso, Stanislas, Koscielney, Lukaku, Hazard, Phillips, Sanchez.

OUT: Costa, Stones, Aguero, Fuchs, Negredo, Origi, Benteke.

Who is the team to look out for?:

Liverpool: With most the team rested after their FA Cup third round replay the Reds host an out of form and doomed Swansea City who capitulated against Arsenal last week. Given the same kind of pressure it could be a similar result, and with Coutinho back in the fold it could be the perfect storm for Liverpool to get back on track.

Chelsea: Every week the Blues cannot be looked past, an asset both defensively and offensively there are FPL points all over the pitch for Chelsea. Hull might be in the good vein of form a new manager injects into a team, but this will be a match that they can’t navigate a result from.

Bournemouth: At home the Cherries are in a good vein of form and they will look to bounce back after the disappointing loss against Hull in gameweek twenty-one. Junior Stanislas is the one to watch for Howe’s team as he controls all the set piece duties and penalties which Watford love conceding.

Arsenal: Home against Burnley could be one of them routine wins for the Gunners on their march to retain a place in the top four, and with them scoring plenty of goals and keeping clean sheets it is just what any FPL manager is looking for.

Who is the team to avoid?:

Man City: The Citizens were demolished at Goodison Park by Everton, who played a back-three, and now Spurs visit and they have adopted the same formula which saw the North London club put an end to Chelsea’s winning run. Spurs won at the Etihad last season and with the run they are on I can’t see a way out for Pep’s team. Activate sulk mode for the former Barcelona and Bayern coach who expected the league to be easier than it is.

Leicester: Terrible away from home and missing their star men who are all performing in the AFCON, so no other explanation required.

Man United: Dropped points against a resilient Liverpool and now go to a stadium where they haven’t won in the last three Premier League encounters. With Peter Crouch and Marko Arnautovic on peak form this won’t be the usual encounter for Mourinho, but with the reputation both sides have expect plenty of long balls to Crouch and Ibra.

GW Differential Picks:

Junior Stanislas (Bournemouth): A player with the perfect combination of price, set-piece ability, penalty record, and play time. The Frenchman has been sensational this season and Bournemouth’s best offensive player. Watford at home should be an easily winnable game for the Cherries.

Skhrodan Mustafi (Arsenal): Arsenal have never lost when the German has featured, and it is expected that they can carry on their momentum after beating Swansea to keep it clean again, this time against a visiting Burnley.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

Alexis Sanchez (C): I can’t look past Sanchez out of all the fixtures, the Chilean has been involved in more Premier League goals than any player so far this season and with Burnley travelling to the Emirates I expect another typical performance from their top scorer.

Marcos Alonso (VC): Never doubt the left-wing back, the new non-differential option has lit up the Chelsea team since his introduction by Conte. Having scored two goals in his last game there is no hiding in the Spaniards potential. An encounter with Hull at home should see him continue picking up FPL points, after all the only team to deny him have been a very good Spurs side.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Plenty of home potential this Gameweek with most of the big teams on home soil, it should be a straightforward week for the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal. I have also said that there is a good chance eight or more teams can keep a clean sheet this weekend, especially with things tightening up at the back with most teams scrapping for any points. Having four defenders would be highly advisable for this weekend’s action.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Coutinho, Lallana, Baines, Lukaku, Eriksen, Alli, Alderweireld, Chelsea defenders, Foster

OUT: Snodgrass, Sigurdsson, Origi, Aguero, Capoue

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Bournemouth - Charlie Daniels looks like a very good option against a Watford side who can't score. The Cherries are good enough to bounce back after defeat to Hull.

West Ham - The London side have a lot of attacking qualities that could startle a solid Boro defence. Carroll and Antonio are in good form.

Everton - Palace bad, Everton good. Palace can't defend, Everton are scoring goals. Palace are a work in progress, Everton have the legs to run them in circles... Under the pretence that Everton actually don't cave, which they do far too regularly away from home this season.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Watford - The Hornets look lost for options right now and could be in for a big defeat against a Bournemouth side who will want to come back strong after losing to Hull away from home.

Man City - Jumping on the bandwagon of hating on City, at home against Spurs I think it will be another defeat. Spurs beat this side last season when City were at their prime. This season City head into the game after a 4-0 defeat to Everton. It could be another decimation.

GW Differential Picks:

Stanislas (Bournemouth) - On penalties and set pieces, Stanislas is a one stop shop for FPL potential. A great 5th midfield option.

Nathan Redmond (Southampton) - Leicester are folding easily away from home, and Redmond will be the player to cause their immobile back line some problems.

Pedro (Chelsea) - Owned by few, and playing in fine form at home, Pedro could be the man to watch for Chelsea against Hull.

FPL Captaincy Pick:

Sanchez (C) - Burnley fold away from home and Sanchez just keeps on performing. Even though Hazard seems like a tasty option, Arsenal should roll this Burnley side over by a few goals.

Hazard (VC) - Hull are the worst team in the Premier League, whilst Chelsea are the best. Two and two go together on this occasion in a match which could see Chelsea rout the relegation favourites.

Other Gameweek Comments:

With most of the #big boys' playing at home, FPL returns are usually lower than we think. It's probably better to bank on clean sheets in these fixtures, so a couple of Chelsea or Arsenal defenders are the safest bet for Fantasy points.
