FPL FORECAST 2016/17: Gameweek 33

Each and every week the three members of The Hype Team post their Premier League and FPL predictions in an attempt to enlighten players that might be stuck with their FPL choices and transfers. In addition, we’ll be taking on a guest for every Gameweek in the PL. On the weekly agenda are a general predictions category, a Gameweek Fantasy Premier League forecast, scout picks, and captaincy choices. For Gameweek 33, we welcome @FPLJudas as our next guest. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 33 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

The transfer deadline for GW33 is Saturday 15th April 2017 at 11:30am.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of the first edition of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interest parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions (Mark Lawrenson style, only less biased, hopefully) and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast.A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, the wildcard differential players, and general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2016/17 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Watford 1-1 Swansea

Southampton 2-0 Man City

West Brom 1-3 Liverpool

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 33

Best GW Attacking Options:

Spurs (H) vs. Bournemouth

Crystal Palace (H) vs. Leicester

Everton (H) vs. Burnley

Liverpool (A) vs. West Brom

Arsenal (A) vs. Middlesbrough

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Spurs (H) vs. Bournemouth

Crystal Palace (H) vs. Leicester

Everton (H) vs. Burnley

Arsenal (A) vs. Middlesbrough

Southampton (A) vs. Man City

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Wilfried Zaha, Jan Vertonghen, Romelu Lukaku.

OUT: Matt Phillips, Nathaniel Clyne, Sergio Aguero.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Watford: Swansea are looking dreadful, I really believe that they will be struggling for the rest of the season now that Gylfi and Fernando aren’t in sync anymore. The Hornets are grinding out results at home and I can see the home side taking advantage of some poor Swans form.

Crystal Palace: What can I say, Mamadou Sakho bossed Arsenal into submission on Monday night, he looked a real unit. Leicester, who just recently lost in the Champions League, so we are expecting the Eagles to use this opportunity to continue their great run and add even more woe to the Champions of England.

Everton: Lukaku is on stellar form and having shipped four past Leicester you’d expect the Toffees to be excellent value for their money in a fixture against Burnley who are a shadow of the team who play at Turf Moor. Also, it will be rubbing salt in the wounds of Arsenal of whom Everton are catching up with.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Leicester: Shaky European hangovers are real, and with the possibility of rotation they are a real black flag against an in-form Palace side.

Arsenal: I know they are travelling to Middlesbrough, but when the rot is in deep, it goes deep.

GW Differential Picks:

Christian Benteke: After seeing how the Leicester defence handled Lukaku (which they didn’t) I can see Benteke nabbing a goal out of general defensive naivety.

M’Baye Niang: I am going full-swing differential here because I really like the look of the French forward, his runs and energy give Watford a positive attacking flow. The goal he scored against West Brom also showed his class. Swansea, who I think will be relegated, will be hard pressed to contain him.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Romelu Lukaku: Man of the hour step forward, the big Belgian has been scoring for fun recently, and after putting Leicester to the sword I expect another big week against Burnley who will be defending for the majority of the game when they visited Goodison Park.

(VC): Harry Kane: He would be captain were there not concerns for his game time. The English striker is yet to be hitting full gear, he very well could be substituted, but has a good scoring record against Bournemouth so he makes vice to Lukaku this week.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Rotation season is in swing, as all the double gameweeks have been announced you are weighing up simply if your players have a chance of playing. Stable options at this point are the essentials, no point in having someone if they are benched because of FA Cup, or European fixtures, and two fixtures in one week.

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Arsenal (a) vs. Middlesbrough

Chelsea (a) vs. Man United

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Any assets for the upcoming DGW fixtures (Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea, Spurs, and Man City), and Southampton defenders – Yoshida, Bertrand, Stephens, and Forster.

OUT: Llorente, Carroll, Antonio Valencia (risking rotation with European games)

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Chelsea – A big game at Old Trafford, but realistically an easy tie for the Blues. Chelsea have beaten United twice already this season, without conceding, and travel to United a few days removed from their latest Europa League tie.

Crystal Palace – The Eagles are flying high and entertain a Leicester side that will heavily rotate their full backs, which should provide ample room for Townsend and Zaha to exploit the opposition defence.

Middlesbrough – The Gunners have been appalling this season on the most part, but face a Boro squad even worse. I am casting my mind back to their last encounter, a 0-0 draw at the Emirates when Arsenal were previously on form. Boro could nick this game if Adama Traore is at the races.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

West Brom – The Baggies are falling off the radar, and miss out of DGW34 altogether. Liverpool should beat them comfortably at the Hawthornes.

Man City – I’m not sold on them as FPL assets this season, even with Aguero in a good vain of form. There’s too much rotation and uncertainty and this week against Southampton a lot of FPL manager’s think that their visit to St Mary’s will be a rollover, just because they have Aguero in their ranks. I don’t see that being the case. Southampton are a decent, compact side, and will pose City a few problems.

Leicester – An obvious pick this week, but the Foxes are going to heavily rotate their squad with the Champions League tie against Athletico Madrid upcoming next week. Palace are in good form which could lead to a comfortable home victory.

Arsenal – Wenger is finding a new low every week, and after a long journey up north, I’m almost expecting the show to go on (and by that I mean another series of rants on ArsenalFanTV).

GW Differential Picks:

Andros Townsend (CRY) – Last season around this time Townsend was on form for Newcastle and he’s doing it again for Palace. Goals and assists could be following into this Leicester game.

Jan Vertonghen (TOT) – Verty is going to become an increasingly popular pick in the FPL with the DGW’s rolling out. He’s cheaper than most of Spurs’s backline, and will play every game. He’s also a favourable defender heading into their tie at home to Bournemouth.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Romelu Lukaku – The Everton forward is in irresistible form at home, and that is reason enough to captain the Belgium international. He’s got more assurances as an asset than the likes of Kane and Alli, who might find slight changes to their play.

(VC) Dele Alli – Kane is still a small question mark despite his return from injury, which means Alli takes the vice captaincy slot ahead of the Forward. Alli’s been in fine goal scoring form, so keep it simple this week, even if to limit the damage of your opponents.

Other Gameweek Comments:

DGW fixtures are out and it makes DGW34 seem a little irrelevant. I’m preaching for the second wildcard to be played GW35 of GW36, which gives you time to Bench Boost for DGW37. If you have your Triple Captaincy chip then you’ll have to risk it with Alexis or Zlatan.

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential: Spurs (H) vs Bournemouth

Everton (H) vs Burnley

Crystal Palace (H) vs Leicester Arsenal (a) vs Middlesborough

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Kane, Sakho, Zaha, Benteke, Hazard

OUT: Vardy, Defoe, Negredo, West Brom players

Who are the teams to look out for?: Tottenham - When Spurs play at home they have the ability to put 4/5 goals past the majority of teams in the league. With Harry Kane back and their whole squad in red-hot form I can see them demolishing Bournemouth. Crystal Palace - On the back of hammering Arsenal and 4 clean sheets in 6 games, they should do well at home against a Leicester side that is bound to be rotated due to Champions League commitments. Plus DGW34 coming soon. Everton - After an impressive attacking performance against Leicester, Lukaku at the top of his game and with strong home form over the season, they looks set for a comfortable win against Burley who have struggled on their travels in the Premier League.

Who are the teams to avoid?: Bournemouth - They have done averagely well lately but their leaky defence and attacking style of play look likely to leave them open to the deadly force that is Spurs at the moment. Leicester - With this away game against in-form Crystal Palace falling smack bang in the middle of two crucial Champions League games against Athletico Madrid, squad rotation is a given. After the Everton game, perhaps Shakespeare’s honeymoon period is finally over. Watford - Their squad is still stricken with injuries and after the 4-0 thrashing they got against Spurs, their confidence is bound to be low. However captain Troy Deeney should be back and at Home vs Swansea, they could bounce back.

GW Differential Picks:

Mamadou Sakho Andrea Ranocchia Christian Benteke

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Lukaku

(VC): Kane

Other Gameweek Comments:

After so many of the big-hitters delivered in GW32, keep an eye on ownership as it can burn you in Overall Rank if lots of highly owned players deliver and you don’t own many of them.
