FANTASY FORECAST 2017/18: FPL Gameweek 14

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League the Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2017/18 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Arsenal 3-0 Huddersfield

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 14

Best GW Attacking Options:

Spurs (A) vs. Leicester

Chelsea (H) vs. Swansea

Man City (H) vs. Southampton

Liverpool (A) vs. Stoke

Arsenal (H) vs. Huddersfield

Everton (H) vs. West Ham

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Watford (H) vs. Man United

Arsenal (H) vs. Huddersfield

Burnley (A) vs. Bournemouth

Man City (H) vs. Southampton

Spurs (A) vs. Leicester

Chelsea (H) vs. Swansea

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Nick Pope (GK), Andrea Christensen (DEF), Eden Hazard (MID), Alvaro Morata (FWD)

OUT: David De Gea (GK), Eric Bailly (DEF), Deli Alli (MID), Romelu Lukaku (FWD)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Watford defenders, Liverpool midfielders, Chelsea attacking options, Man City midfielders, Everton players.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: Once again overlooked by most FPL players yet again in our captaincy polls, so I am expecting everyone to act surprised when you see the Reds midfield options filling out the GW14 dream team.

Newcastle: West Brom and Newcastle will have a tight game, but I think that the Toon will bounce back against opposition you think will be more resilient after a good Wembley experience.

Chelsea: Form in every department from defence to attack, and Swansea have none at all.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Southampton: Despite a bounce against lowly Everton, they face Man City. Naturally, you’d be sceptical.

Man United: Playing Watford isn’t a good thing now, I can see the Red Devil’s slipping up.

West Ham: The new Sunderland.

GW Differential Picks:

Fortunately for you I do the weekly differential picks, here are my weekly ten:

The ‘Power Four’ are finally united (the best MID's from last season): Alexis Sanchez, Sadio Mane, Eden Hazard, and Gyli Sigurdsson.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Mohamad Salah – The man of the hour, the Egyptian is the most in-form player in the league, so why look elsewhere? Stoke aren’t exactly defensive mavericks in this moment, so I anticipate a Reds goal feast on Wednesday.

(VC) Harry Kane – Spurs are better away from home, and if Kane will repeat his hat-trick from last season against the Foxes at the King Power then everyone will be happy.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Three words that will plague the FPL community: sweat over rotation.

The threat is real, so only pick players who are dead-set to play this week.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?: IN: Salah, Hazard, Morata, Azpilicueta, Sterling, Jesus/Aguero, Zaha, Daniels, Mee, Pope, Sanchez, Ramsey, Monreal. OUT: Ritchie, Jones, Southampton defenders, Mahrez, Vardy.

GW Differential Picks:

Alex Iwobi (ARS): If he can retain his place in the starting XI he can use his pace to expose the Huddersfield back line. We’ve seen his potential in past seasons and recently on international duty vs Argentina.

FPL Captaincy Picks: (C): Harry Kane: Away from home against a former club. The stage is set.

(VC): Mo Salah: My current choice for POTY. His consistency is something rarely found in FPL terms and I can’t see anything changing this week.

FPL Hype Picks: Gameweek 14 Formation: 3-4-3

Arsenal (H) vs. Huddersfield

Burnley (A) vs. Bournemouth

Bournemouth (H) vs. Burnley

Man City (H) vs. Southampton

Liverpool (A) vs. Stoke

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Will Hughes, Mustafi or Monreal, and the likely duo of Hazard and Morata

OUT: Eriksen and Silva are popular transfers out, so FPL logic should dictate that you keep them in your team… The only two players that all players should get rid of are Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. The pair are liabilities in terms of their minutes.

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

There will be lots of differential defenders on the market, whilst if Zlatan hasn’t been snapped up for future games, especially with an impending ban on Lukaku, that would be ideal timing.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

West Ham – I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but there is a worse team than West Ham in the Premier League. David Moyes could win his first game against his old club. Everton are truly that bad.

Bournemouth/Burnley - Some games scream 0-0. This one does.

Brighton - Glenn Murray is up against his old club. The wingers are in form. The defensive players look solid. More Gross Misconduct is incoming.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Everton – It has got so bad that I think that they may lose to West Ham

Stoke/Liverpool - This fixture has been 1-0 to Liverpool in recent years, so goals might be a premium, even with Salah banging them in for fun.

Newcastle - My beloved Newcastle are against the rub of the green right now, and West Brom have just picked up a good result at Wembley. I'm expecting a home win.

GW Differential Picks:

Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez are owned by a ridiculous small margin in the FPL and that may carry on with their price, but both have picked up their form.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Eden Hazard – Hazard is the man right now and has steady returns in the FPL, and is more reliable than Morata in terms of returns. What you’re hoping on though is Morata not being the focal point of the team, but against Swansea I’m not sure – it will be attack against defence, so Morata could score big. Hazard wins out for me because he is on penalty kick duty and is a bonus points magnet.

(VC) Harry Kane – Never now what you’re going to get from The Hurrikane. He scored four against Leicester last season in the same fixture, but that was a dead encounter during Double Gameweek 37.

Other Gameweek Comments:

My favourite time of the season. Game after game. Constant FPL talk. It’s the best period of the season, just don’t drop too many points when transfers come thick and fast.

FPL Hype Picks: Gameweek 14

Formation: 3-5-2

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Morata (FWD), Mane (MID), Kolasinac (DEF), Courtois (GK)

OUT: Lukaku (FWD), Choupo-Moting (MID), Duffy (DEF), Forster (GK)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Groß vs. Crystal Palace

Mane vs. Stoke

Kolasinac vs. Huddersfield

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: With a well-rested Mane and Firmino, they can shred a flimsy Stoke defence after two frustrating draws. Amazing run of fixtures coming up too.

Chelsea: Ever since Kante is back Chelsea has been given new life. Defensively looking good and Hazard/Morata are a BIG offensive threat.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Everton: I don’t know if I really need to explain why, just look at the domestic and foreign game history…

Newcastle: Without Lascelles, Newcastle have looked ragged on defence and have struggled offensively.

GW Differential Picks:

Eden Hazard at 6.5% could be a huge differential

Mane is also on 7.5% picked with great fixtures coming up002E

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Harry Kane

(VC): Sadio Mane

Other Gameweek Comments:

With all teams dealing with midweek fixtures keep an eye on any players that were rested before this GW13 as they will hopefully be most likely to play both midweek (GW14) and then again in GW15. Also thinking about the future, there are over 50 players with 3 or more yellow cards (11 players are on 4). Keep an eye on player stats when making transfers in the next few weeks to avoid bringing in a player who gets banned for 5 YC.
