FANTASY FORECAST 2017/18: FPL Gameweek 28

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League the Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2017/18 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Liverpool 4-0 West Ham

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 28

Best GW Attacking Options:

Leicester (H) vs. Stoke City

Bournemouth (H) vs. Newcastle

Newcastle (A) vs. Bournemouth

Swansea (A) vs. Brighton

Liverpool (H) vs. West Ham

Everton (A) vs. Watford

Spurs (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Man City (A) vs. Arsenal

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Leicester (H) vs. Stoke City

Swansea (A) vs. Brighton

Liverpool (H) vs. West Ham

West Brom (H) vs. Huddersfield

Huddersfield (A) vs. West Brom

Chelsea (A) vs. Man United

Spurs (A) vs. Crystal Palace

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Lukasz Fabianski (GK), Federico Fernandez (DEF), Riyad Mahrez (MID), Oumar Niasse (FW)

OUT: Nick Pope (GK), Phil Jones (DEF), Anthony Martial (MID), Romelu Lukaku (FW)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Swansea defenders. Everton forwards. Liverpool defenders. Chelsea defenders. Man City attackers.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: Four goals against them earlier this season. Salah in-form. Mane in-form. Firmino in-form. Defence in-form. The Reds are yet to lose at Anfield this season. West Ham shouldn’t be a problem for them.

Leicester: Mahrez is back, and he reunited with Vardy in the FA Cup to provide an assist to help them through. Stoke will need wins at home this year, and Paul Lambert secretly knows that any result in this match would be a bonus.

Swansea: In-form all round, the Swans are using the momentum of their new manager to full effect. Ayew is scoring, they are keeping clean sheets, and are great on the road. This fixture won’t have many goals, so bank on the Welsh team continuing their journey to avoid the drop.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Man United: Chelsea’s visit must have come at terrible time. There is a lot of debate about Pogba’s role, Mourinho and his philosophy, and that loss to Newcastle. Chelsea thwarted them earlier in the season and I expect a repeated in what will surely be a tactical battle between two managers who can’t stand each other.

Arsenal: Can’t play against the top teams of the league, so no point in looking at their options this week.

Watford: Patchy form is the name; unexpected returns is the game. Watford is in flux, and with Everton in form this could be an encounter with goals at either end of the pitch.

Bournemouth: Their visiting opponents Newcastle are proving tricky customers of late, and the Toon are on the back of beating Man United. Newcastle have only conceded one goal a game when they do, and they have scored a single goal in their last half-dozen games. Rafa Benitez has made the Toon hard to beat.

GW Differential Picks:

I do the weekly differentials article every week, and I got some world class players in there for your browsing this week. Everton’s Oumar Niasse is living in a rich vein of form for starters, and at £4.9mil he is the essential budget striker.

Elsewhere, Federico Fernandez has been a rock for Swansea and a bonus point magnet. See the other eight names on the differential article.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Mohamad Salah – Who else? The King of Egypt has been in scintillating form for the Reds, and last time round against West Ham he put the Hammers to the sword.

(VC) Harry Kane – Who else? The King of England has been in scintillating form for the Lilywhites, and Spurs beat the Eagles earlier in the season.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Only one comment, and that revolves around the League Cup final on Sunday. I expect Man City to win and field two identical teams, and Arsenal will do the same either way, so don’t panic on selection problems. Man City will field a weakened team versus Basel in the Champions League, so that is where the rotation will be. Liverpool, meanwhile have the majority of the FPL community relying on them dispatching West Ham this weekend.

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 28

Best GW Attacking Options:

Salah, Kane, Vardy, Firmino

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Burnley, Swansea, Spurs

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: With only four fixtures in GW31, this is a good week to start stocking up on players who can contribute both in GW and have decent fixtures in the lead-up: Liverpool (Van Dijk, Firmino, Mane), Bournemouth (Callum Wilson), and Stoke (Shaqiri)

OUT: With Man United and Man City away in back-to-back fixtures, as well as a blank in GW31, it may be time to transfer out your Chelsea defenders.

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Loris Karius appears to have finally won his spot as the starting Liverpool GK - great fixtures over the next few weeks and no blank in GW31.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool, Everton, and if you’re planning to play your Free Hit Chip in GW31 we would strongly consider Vardy/Mahrez and Jan Vertonghen.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Chelsea and Man United are both coming off difficult midweek Champions League fixtures, have difficult fixtures in GW28-30, and blank in GW31. We’d suggest avoiding assets on either team.

GW Differential Picks:

Jamie Vardy, Jóhann Berg Gudmundsson, Gylfi Sigurdsson.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

Mo Salah is the highest-scoring and most consistent player, to state the obvious. And a home fixture (where Liverpool have been lethal) against and aged West Ham squad looks very good on paper.

The only other clear option is Kane, who could be facing a Premier League debutant in goal for Palace given the injuries to both Hennessey and Speroni. The decision comes down to whether you believe Roy Hodgson can set up any sort of viable defense given what he currently has at his disposal—Spurs have struggled to break down defensive sides on numerous occasions this season.

Other Gameweek Comments:

It’s a tricky week for most of the top clubs, with Arsenal-Man City playing in the League Cup final and again several days later and Chelsea and Man United both playing difficult Champions League ties this week. It’s a good week to start stocking up on players for GW31 or, if possible, save a transfer.
