MLS Fantasy 2018: Gameweek 10 - Player Picks
Welcome to a first article for The Hype Train by @AllThingsMLS_, looking back at players who have performed in his team from last week, as well as looking forward to this weekend's round of fixtures. In this article ATM will be breaking down his team from Gameweek 9 and then going over why he is picking a certain team for the upcoming round of fixtures for Gameweek 10. All aboard.
MLS Fantasy: Gameweek Deadline
For the 2018 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Gameweek progresses.
You can view the schedule and a real time Gameweek deadline countdown clock (in the London GMT timezone) on our dedicated MLS Fantasy page.
Serious changes were needed after Gameweek 9:
To be honest, there were serious changes needed between the end of Game week 9 and the start of Game week 10. The first of which, being that New England Revolution's Lee Nguyen being dead weight in my squad, has not been good all season and needed to go. The next two to go were Ronald Matarrita of New York City FC, could be brought back in the future, but for now, needs to leave my squad for the time being.
I was expecting Atlanta United to do the business against Montreal, especially in keeping a clean sheet, thus, that is the big reason why I brought in the former Aston Villa goalkeeper, Brad Guzan. Alas, he was undone quickly by a Saphir Taider header, bagging a measly three points, not the kind of points return that I was expecting nor wanting.
The great thing about MLS Fantasy in this case is, it allows you to easily chop and change week to week. Basically, you get a free hit every week and can make almost wholesale changes to your team given your weekly budget that gradually rises through player performance.
Thus, that's exactly what I did.
Looking ahead to Gameweek 10:
The chops and changes have took place and I can now look ahead to Game week 10 of MLS Fantasy with renewed optimism. The two Los Angeles clubs, Galaxy and FC are both at home and both clubs have hit the ground running this season. The Galaxy have the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their ranks to keep their heads in the game, but not my Fantasy side.
Los Angeles FC, the new kids on the block have Carlos Vela in their ranks pushing them forward, doing a total Atlanta United on it. Thus, six of my starting XI for Game week 10 come from the state of California. Laurent Ciman and the aforementioned Carlos Vela come in from the new franchise and Daniel Steres, Sebastian Lletget, Romain Alessandrini and Ola Kamara come in from the best Team in MLS history.
Aaron Long and Kaku make up my New York Red Bulls contingent, while Stefan Frei and Victor Rodriguez of the Seattle Sounders, complete my starting XI.
Hopes for the Gameweek 10:
Another haul, similar to this week, 65 points to be exact, would be good. It would allow me to keep in touch with the chasing pack for now. After this week though, I will need to look more closely at my options going forward. Focus more on my opponents, some of which are surely on this site.
For this week though, I am hoping that Carlos Vela does not have another off week like the week just gone. He had better bring his A game. Ola Kamara may now be Zlatan Ibrahimovic's understudy in LA, but that should not stop him from at least having a good week this weekend.
Romain Alessandrini better be ready to provide some assists this weekend also.
This weekend see's me basically for want of a better word, putting all my eggs in the two Los Angeles Football Club's baskets. Yet, I am happy with that. To be honest, this week, is the last time I am going with my head, from now on, I will go with my gut.
Try to keep up with the pack for as long as I can. Then, try to do a Louis Hamilton in Formula 1, pass them out and leave them for dead. At least, that's what I hope to do anyway.
