MLS Fantasy 2018: Gameweek 10 Review - Player of the Week

After each round of matches for MLS Fantasy players, we'll be providing our Player of the Week, the player who we think is deserving of top spot, even if they didn't finish on the most points for a week. We'll take a look at the impact the player is having on his team, as well as the MLS Fantasy returns that they are providing. Strap in, it's time to get nostalgic. All aboard.

MLS Fantasy: Gameweek 11

For the 2018 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Gameweek progresses.

You can view the schedule and a real time Gameweek deadline countdown clock (in the London GMT timezone) on our dedicated MLS Fantasy page.

Gameweek 10: Montreal Impact 4-2 New England Revolution

MLS's latest round of fixtures was another shining example of value for entertainment, and was highlighted in Montreal's 4-2 home victory over New England Revolution.

Saputo Stadium was treated to 6 goals, with Ignacio Piatti putting Anthony Jackson-Hamel through one-on-one early in the fixture, with an eventual shot squirming under Matt Turner's body before trickling over the line. Piatti and Jackson-Hamel combined again for Montreal's second goal, with the Argentine designated player squaring for Hamel's second of the game.

Montreal took a commanding 3-0 lead when Piatti's inch perfect through ball was calmly slotted home by Raheem Edwards at an angle. Man of the match Piatti then added a 4th after he chased onto a lobbed pass from Samuel Piette and slotted comfortably past Turner.

After Piatti was substituted with 3 assists and a goal, New England's defensive midfielder Wilfried Zahibo half the deficit from consecutive set-piece situations for the travelling side to continue his fine start to the season.

The Canadian side registered their 3rd win of the season to take them to 7th place in the Eastern Conference, 5 points behind New England Revolution on 14 points. The win for Montreal could prove to be invaluable as it prevented an 11 point gap opening between the sides just 10 weeks into the season.

MLS Fantasy Gameweek 10 - Player of the Week: Ignacio Piatti (Montreal)

Montreal's Ignacio Piatti came close to our Player of the Week accolade during Gameweek 8's 5-3 home defeat to LAFC, but despite scoring a hat-trick was overlooked by Sporting KC's Johnny Russell. Week 10 provided no such competition for Piatti, with the Argentine play-maker the obvious pick that would have made or broke many MLS Fantasy players this past week.

Ignacio Piatti's Gameweek 10 Points:

75 mins played: 2pts

1 goal: 5pts

3 assists: 9pts

Clean sheet: 1pt

4 key passes: 1pt

3 big chances created: 3pts

6 recoveries: 1pt

Total: 22pts

Piatti's 22 point haul is the single-highest score of any player so far this season for a single game (Maxi Moralez managed 23pts during a Double Gameweek), and those points this week were only celebrated by 12.6% of players, meaning his exclusion would have been a vital ingredient in Classic and Head to Head leagues.

Playing up top is providing Piatti with a free reign, much like Miguel Almiron enjoys for Atlanta, and his creative freedom showed against a high-pressing New England side who simply couldn't handle Piatti's passing precision. A hat-trick of assists took Piatti to 6 for the season, the joint highest in MLS this season with New York Red Bulls midfielder, Kaku.

MLS Fantasy players will be bracing themselves for more from Piatti as Gameweek 11 provides a Double Gameweek for 9 teams, which includes Montreal. The Impact travel to Chicago Fire before hosting Philadelphia Union, in a brace of fixtures that will be tempting to have Piatti as a potential captaincy option.
