FANTASY FORECAST 2017/18: FPL Gameweek 38

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League the Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We are asking the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The 3 members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead. For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Fixture Prediction: 2017/18 Points Table

In our predictions a perfect score is 3 points, and predicting the right outcome is worth 1 point (aka if a team wins but, you predict it, but don't get the perfect score). Below is the Gameweek and overall rundown of our Premier League predictions series for the season.

Man United 2-0 Watford

Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 38

Best GW Attacking Options:

Burnley (H) vs. Bournemouth

Crystal Palace (H) vs. West Brom

Liverpool (H) vs. Brighton

Man United (H) vs. Watford

Newcastle (H) vs. Chelsea

Man City (A) vs. Southampton

Spurs (H) vs. Leicester

Swansea (H) vs. Stoke City

Best GW Defensive / Clean Sheet Potential:

Burnley (H) vs. Bournemouth

Crystal Palace (H) vs. West Brom

Liverpool (H) vs. Brighton

Man United (H) vs. Watford

Man City (A) vs. Southampton

Swansea (H) vs. Stoke City

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Sergio Romero (GK), Mamadou Sakho (DEF), Mohamad Salah (MID), Chris Wood (FW)

OUT: David de Gea (GK), Jan Vertonghen (DEF), Riyad Mahrez (MID), Ashley Barnes (FW)

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Differentials, differentials, differentials. It is the final day, look at Burnley defenders, Liverpool defenders, Newcastle forwards, and Man United’s goalkeeper.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: The Reds want Champions League football, and to do it they need a win. I can see the Reds going all out to ensure they play in Europe’s top competition once again. Brighton have survived and might let their hair down.

Man United: The Hornets are poor away from home, so I expect this to be a routine win for Jose’s team.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Chelsea: The Toon always do well against Chelsea, so I don’t have a lot of faith in a team that failed to break through Huddersfield with only a slice of luck to earn them a draw. That’s right Alonso…I am looking at you.

West Brom: The Baggies have been in great form under Darren Moore, but Roy Hodgson has been doing a fantastic job as manager for Palace, so I expect Zaha to be the difference maker in this fixture.

GW Differential Picks:

This week is all about differential picks, Sergio Romero for Man United is one such name, as is Virgil van Dijk, Mamadou Sakho, and Chris Wood.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Mohamad Salah – One final week to back the King of Egypt, in my personal team I will be triple captaining the Egyptian in hope he can break the Premier League record for most goals in a single season.

(VC): Harry Kane – What would the final week be without Kane supporting Salah as my vice-captain?

Other Gameweek Comments:

Use the last chips you have in your arsenal to reign terror down on your head to head opponents. Differentials are the way forward to defeating them.

GW Differential Picks:

Aaron Cresswell (WHU): On Direct Free Kicks and Corners. Playing at home for the last time this year with an opportunity to go out in style against lacklustre Everton.

FPL Captaincy Picks: (C) Harry Kane: Going out the way I came in. Harry Kane needs to go all out to win the Golden boot.

Who would you Transfer In and Out for the Gameweek and beyond?:

IN: Salah, Robertson, van Dijk, Zaha

OUT: Any Man United player, any Chelsea player

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Newcastle players, Swansea players for their unlikely survival push.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Liverpool: Rested and raring to go.

Newcastle: The Toon love a home game against Chelsea. Fully expecting us to beat Conte in a potential last league game at the club.

Crystal Palace: In good form heading into this one. Zaha looks a menace.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Southampton: Could be routed by Man City. You never know, could be beat by enough to go down.

Huddersfield: Survival is done. Wenger will probably win his last game,.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Mohamad Salah – Best player in the league gets a curtain call to end the season.

(VC): Harry Kane – If not Salah, then Kane gets the potentially disappoint me one last time.

IN: (GK) De Gea, (DEF) Van Aanholt, (MID) Zaha, (FWD): Aubamayang

OUT: (GK) Pickford (DEF) Duffy, (MID) Willian, (FWD): Barnes

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?: Arnautovic looks a great pick playing up front against an underwhelming Everton side.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Crystal Palace: On current form they look like scoring plenty of goals on their last day against an already relegated West Brom.

Liverpool: While they haven’t looked potent of late in the league, they will want to get back in goal scoring form against a now safe Brighton.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Stoke: Already relegated Stoke are playing against an almost relegated Swansea. Hard to find any gems in that squad.

Leicester: Don’t let the win against a terrible away Arsenal side deceive you. These guys are firmly on the beach.

GW Differential Picks:

I think this is a week with a variety of enticingly low-owned options who are real stars in their respective teams. Zaha and Van Aanholt look strong options again this week. Giroud has also been a great differential pick for those brave enough to take the risk. For a sneaky pick I would say Vokes who should start (with Wood and Barnes injured) against a very suspect Bournemouth defence.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C): Salah – While he hasn’t scored in the last couple, he’s Mr Reliable for a reason and he will be captained by many this week.

(VC): Kane – He has been far from explosive of late, but it’s a last chance to score a few goals and I fancy him at home to Leicester.

Other Gameweek Comments:

It’s the last chance you have to make a difference in your overall rank of mini leagues so if you’re chasing it could be time to take a risk. Just be aware that game week 38 tends to throw up some unexpected goal scorers and less than usual number of clean sheets.
