MLS Fantasy 2018: Gameweek 32 Review - Player of the Week

After each round of matches for MLS Fantasy players, we'll be providing our Player of the Week, the player who we think is deserving of top spot, even if they didn't finish on the most points for a week. We'll take a look at the impact the player is having on his team, as well as the MLS Fantasy returns that they are providing. Strap in, it's time to get nostalgic. All aboard.

MLS Fantasy: Gameweek 33

For the 2018 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Gameweek progresses.

You can view the schedule and a real time Gameweek deadline countdown clock (in the London GMT timezone) on our dedicated MLS Fantasy page.

MLS Fantasy Week 33 - Player of the Week: Wayne Rooney (D.C. United)

With Week 33 quickly approaching our horizon, we thought it was the perfect time to reflect on Week 32, and essentially given us another opportunity to highlight one particular player who has been a difference maker on the pitch, as well as for MLS Fantasy players.

We are of course referencing Wayne Rooney, who was the star performer in DC's recent 2-1 home victory against Chigago Fire, with the former England captain scoring both goals to keep the play-off dream alive in the capital.

United's win took Rooney's side to 41 points from 30 fixtures played, which is 2 less than Montreal Impact, with the Canadian side sitting on 43 points from 32 fixtures. A brace of wins from D.C. will essentially put them in the driving seat for a post-season place, and given the form of United's attack, we are not surprised in the slightest.

Wayne Rooney’s Week 32 Points – D.C. United 2-1 Chicago Fire

90 mins: 2pts

2 goals: 10pts

50 passes: 1pt

8 shots: 2pts

Total: 15 points

DCU haven't lost in their their last 6 MLS matches, whilst they've only lost 2 of the last 13 league games. At Audi Field, DC have only lost twice from 12 home fixtures, with Wayne Rooney's arrival instrumental in a massive upturn in form.

Rooney has managed 16 attacking returns (9 goals, 7 assists) from just 16 appearance, with Rooney scoring a brace in back-to-back matches. Rooney is providing very quickly that he is a genuine leader on the pitch and is elevating a side to heights unexplored in many a year. Rooney's performance against Chicago was typically Rooney - full of hustle, energy, pin-point passing and a ruthlessness in front of goal in the final third.

It's been 6 fixtures since Rooney managed less than 6 Fantasy points, and though he wasn't the top scorer last week, his inclusion was a big difference between a good and bad week on the Fantasy board.

6 of Rooney's 9 goals have come in the last 6 matches, meaning that a stern test against a defensively stable FC Dallas will test Rooney's capabilities to add to his recent form, though if there is anything we have learnt about MLS this season, it's that class shows, regardless of the opposition.

D.C. United face 4 games left this season, 3 of which are massive home fixtures at Audi Field against Dallas, Toronto and NYCFC. It's going to be a huge few weeks for Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta as Ben Olsen's side look to complete the most unlikely play-off appearance (potentially) in MLS history.
