FANTASY FORECAST 2018/19: FPL Gameweek 14

Ahead of each Gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League, The Hype Train invites a special guest onto its Fantasy Forecast, where the three members of the Hype Team and its Special Guests will duel for FPL supremacy in predicting Premier League scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant Gameweek. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, both for traditional FPL leagues and the Draft mode, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differentials for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 14 Deadline

For the 2016/17 Premier League season, the FPL deadline will be one hour before the commencement of the week's first game. The Premier League website lists each FPL deadline, you can always ask on social media, and you can also view a real time countdown on our Weekly Hype page.

How does our Forecasting work?

We have taken to our Hype Team, and the FPL Community, to compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. We ask the questions that dominate each week in the Fantasy Premier League: who to pick, who to avoid, who to captain, and who may surprise. The three members of the Hype Team, and a Guest, will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead.

For the sake of respecting the rules of the Forecast, we have provided an example of what we're sending out to interested parties that will feature throughout the season.

  • Premier League Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with PL predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the FPL Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point.

  • FPL Gameweek Forecasting: Answering the regular questions that come up every single week in the Fantasy Premier League community that helps with identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, players to consider for the Draft game, the wildcard differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Gameweek, without any budget, using the rules of the FPL - formations, captains and vice captains, and the player limits of 3 per club (chips will not be feature of these weekly picks)

  • Each team must pick a Captain, labelled as (c) and a Vice Captain listed as (vc).

Who are your essential Gameweek player picks?:

Robertson/TAA (LIV): One, if not both are pretty much a necessity right now with their dual FPL threat.

Raheem Sterling (MCI): City’s main man is hitting better numbers than last season and I’m expecting more this weekend.

Anthony Martial (MUN): Probably the best option away from home this weekend. Southampton are just terrible (United not too far behind in all reality).

Harry Kane (TOT): History suggests The Hurrikane is going to nag you some Fantasy points this weekend.

Who are the players that might make the difference this Gameweek in the Draft?:

Huddersfield options – Pritchard, Mooy and Schindler – will not have ben picked up by many, if ANY, Draft players.

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Man United: A trip to Southampton screams of a scrappy away win against a poor home side. Fellaini to the rescue again?

Liverpool: A team that can provide the best football in the league, or the worst at times.

Newcastle: The Toon are happy at home and I just fancy them to rile West Ham up and win comfortably.

Huddersfield: A team packed with differentials this week, adapting well to a new formation, playing against a side that doesn’t click away from home? It’s a thought to bank on with some serious consideration.

Watford: If there’s one team who can sting a surprise this weekend, my money is on Watford being the overlooked side this weekend.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Liverpool: See above

Burnley: A bang average team right now with no real quality going forward. You know it’s been a hard season when Joe Hart has been head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates.

GW Differential Picks:

Chris Schindler (HUD): A walking BPS magnet and goal threat has a run of good home fixtures to bank on.

Salomon Rondon (NEW): Rondon’s a beast when given the right service and the one quality improving in the Toon ranks right now is top-notch service to attacking players from set-pieces and open play.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Raheem Sterling – More explosive FPL returns are looking the most likely path for Sterling right now, much more so than Aguero.

(VC) Harry Kane – Just one of them players in derby games that is amongst the goals. Also, a good option heading into the festive fixture period.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Midweek games will pose a bigger challenge for players than this weekend, so try to be sparing with your transfers and make any moves with an eye to the next few games.

Who are your essential Gameweek player picks?:

Hard to say essential especially after the midweek CL matches and a heavy schedule on the run up to Christmas means that potential rotation will be in full effect.

Chelsea don’t have the same pressure as other top teams in Europe, so their star players may be afforded a bit of rest which makes them good picks again despite being handily dealt with by Spurs GW13. West Ham assets will have an easier run out this time round against Newcastle, and City players are just City players!

Alonso, Hazard, Sterling, Laporte, Ederson, Arnautovic, Sane

Who are the teams to look out for?:

Man City: The side are a different class to anyone else in the league. They make the competitive premier league look like La Liga at times where it is common place for Baca to turn over lesser teams every week. Regardless of who they are against they are more than capable of winning by multiple goals, and Bournemouth at home will be no different.

Crystal Palace: Palaces fixtures finally start to get a bit better. After a good result at Old Trafford they face Burnley at home. Fancy Palace to win this one comfortably, and Zaha to get in the points and Palaces defence to hold up against a misfiring Burnley attack. Also it is the first time in a while managers can viably think about starting the King Wan Bissaka in their starting 11, what is not to love!

Chelsea: Not a great result against Spurs GW13, but it was their first loss of the season and they have looked excellent under Sarri. Against Fulham at home you expect business as useful and for them to score a few goals with key assets returning points.

Who are the teams to avoid?:

Fulham: The Tinkerman got an impressive victory against Southampton at the weekend, and will no doubt improve Fulham who have been awful this season. But playing Chelsea away will be a step to far, and the lure of getting Mitrovic back in should be avoided.

Bournemouth: They are against Man City at home need I say more. They have great value in players like Fraser, Brooks and Wilson but this is not the fixture to bring them in.

Leicester: Think they look a little fragile at the moment, even though they have been picking up results, some reason I just don’t fancy them against Watford at home. With Maguire still out injured they aren’t as solid, and Vardy looks like he has lost a yard of pace up front.

GW Differential Picks:

Sane: Sane as I write this is still only owned by 6.1% of managers so represents a massive differential in term of his potential attacking returns. Pep’s comments about Sterling and Mahrez competing and Mendy’s injury has given confidence around Sane’s position in the team. If he plays, he could again be devastating against Bournemouth at home.

Eriksen: I got a warm feeling watching Spurs in action against Chelsea GW13, despite the lack of signings in the summer, you get the best 11 players on the pitch and they are still a force in this league. Everyone’s favourite Danishman got 2 assists last time out and I expect him to be heavily involved again in what I am predicted to be a high scoring North London Derby.

Van Aanholt: Let’s throw a real differential out there. PVA’s Crystal Palace play Burnley at home who have conceded 15 goals in their last 5 matches (yes they have played City and Chelsea). PVA was an assist machine last season and now Palace have better fixtures he could capitalise and start gaining attacking returns, while keeping a clean sheet against a lacklustre Burnley attack.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

(C) Hazard: The fixture against Fulham was one that has been signalled out for Hazard to be top captain choice for sometime now. Disappointing against Spurs and his returns have slowed down since his return from injury, but you would still expect Hazard and Chelsea to turn up against Fulham. He still has a minor injury according to reports, but a rest during the Europa game hopefully means he is fine for the weekend. I understand managers thinking about transferring out Hazard to make way for City assets, but I feel Hazard deserves one last match if fit to prove his worth. If you are keeping him the reason you are is for this Fulham match, so back your man with the captain’s armband.

(VC) Sterling: The guy is on fire at the moment and returning more points currently than the more highly owned Aguero. Devastating attacking threat in an unstoppable City team, I can’t see Bournemouth doing much to be able to stop the inform winger. Only issue is although Sterling looks nailed Pep will be utilising his full squad over this busy period so always a chance he could be rotated.

Other Gameweek Comments:

Approach GW14 with caution! GW13 was horrible for a lot of managers, but don’t knee jerk into bringing in players like Sterling, Sane or Kane if you don’t need to. The chances are you made the previous transfers with a bit of a long term plan, so be patient. GW15 is important due to shifting fixtures with Spurs, and Arsenal the week after, is there value in banking your GW14 transfer?

Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Spurs have 5 games in 2 weeks including Champion League matches, keep an eye on who plays mid-week there will be rotation, there will be heartbreak and tears, make sure your bench can cope. 😊
