MLS Fantasy 2019: Week 9 Fantasy Forecast

April 24, 2019

| The Hype Train |

Ahead of each Week in MLS Fantasy the Hype Train provides its informative Fantasy Forecast, where members of the Hype Team will duel for MLS supremacy in predicting scores, as well as going head to head in picking a Scout Picks squad for the relevant round of games. In addition, we give our insight into who are the players to watch and those to drop, as well as providing insight into captaincy picks, differential players for the week, and more. Welcome to the Forecast. All aboard.

MLS Fantasy: Week 9 Deadline

For the 2019 MLS Fantasy season there is a 'Rolling Lockout', which means you can make substitutions and transfers until the second a player's game kicks off, which means you can chop and change your lineup as any Week progresses.

How does our Forecasting work?

The Hype Team will compete in a weekly head to head dual of wits. The 3 members of the team will provide weekly insight for the Gameweek ahead, providing score predictions, a Scout Picks squad that follows MLS Fantasy rules, and will provide what insight they can for the fixtures at hand.

  • MLS Fixture Prediction: As pundits, we are testing our football acumen with MLS predictions and will be providing regular updated tables and stats in each edition of the MLS Forecast. A perfect score is worth 3 points whilst a correct result is worth 1 point. An incorrect score is worth nothing.

  • Blank Box: We've left an open space for the team to write that helps with the Gameweek hustle; identifying captaincy picks, transfers, attacking options, clean sheet potential, teams to look our for and avoid, differential players, as well as general analysis and comments.

  • Scout Picks: Picking a squad of 15 for a single Week, within their budget limitations, using the rules of MLS Fantasy - formations, the player limits of 3 players-per-club, and each team must pick a captain.

MLS Fantasy Insight: Week 9

10 teams have a Double Gameweek:

NYCFC

Chicago Fire

Columbus Crew

D.C. United

New England Revolution

Montreal Impact

Minnesota United

LA Galaxy

Seattle Sounders

San Jose Earthquakes

Teams to bank on:

LA Galaxy, Minnesota, NYCFC, Montreal (defenders), Seattle

Teams to avoid:

New England (quality), San Jose (fixtures), D.C. United (form)

Differential picks:

Danny Hoesen (SJ - $6.9m): cheap, has 3 goals in 3 matches and San Jose haven' been the worst team in the league for a few weeks.

Angelo Rodriguez (MIN - $8.2m): The player to take some of the shine away from Quintero? The Forward has started the last 4 matches, scoring or assisting in his last 3 MLS matches, so is one to look out for.

Captaincy considerations:

If I had to rank my personal favourite picks for the armband this week, I'd list the following in this exact order.

1) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (LA)

2) Darwin Quintero (MIN)

3) Alejandro Pozuelo (TOR)

4) Johnathon dos Santos (LA)

5) Nicolas Lodeiro (SEA)

6) Carlos Vela (LAFC)

Other comments:

There's a lot of hate for Maxi Moralez (NYC) this week, but I think the playmaker is worth the gamble this week. Maxi was the Double Gameweek king last season and isn't ridiculously priced, even if his output is low. There's always a 'Plan B in MLS, so I'd suggest maybe an autoroo place for the attacking midfielder this week.

I've gone for a 4-3-3 with 4 players in auto-rotation this week - but want to cover the popular trio. I've got 3 million in the bank in case I need to switch things up this week.

MLS Fantasy Scout Picks: Gameweek 9

Overall Squad Value: $117.8 million ($3.0m in the bank)

Formation: 4-3-3 ( is the current plan)

Starting 11

GK: Johnson (NYC)

DEF: Lovitz (MTL)

DEF: Diallo (MTL)

DEF: Leerdam (SEA)

DEF: Matarrita (NYC)

MID: Moralez (NYC)

MID: Dos Santos (LA)

MID: Lodeiro (SEA)

FOR: Ibrahimovic (LA) - (C)

FOR: Quintero (MIN)

FOR: Hoesen (SJ)

Substitutes

GK: Ejimadu (LAFC)

DEF: Reynolds II (CHI)

MID: Daniels (TOR)

MID: Leyva (SEA)

* Johnson, Lovitz, Moralez and Hoesen are my current autoroo players.
