Weekly Differentials (GW27)
After what is the most bizarre ‘breaks’ of all time, football has returned to the calendar. Last week our most surprise differential return was Bruno Fernandes’ assist away at Chelsea for Harry Maguire’s controversial goal. GW27 offers many hard to call fixtures, and many FPL managers will be looking at differential options to vary up their teams and try something different as fixtures clear up for some teams. We return with the best differential from each fixture this Gameweek.
GW27: Differential Highlights
Billy Sharp (SHEFFIELD UNITED vs. Brighton):
The Blades forward has been scoring all up and down the Football League, and Billy Sharp has only two goals in the Premier League. The first was in GW1 to grab the equaliser against Bournemouth, and then again in the return fixture in GW27. Sharp has maintained three starts in a row, and the Blades host Brighton in what many expect to be a routine fixture as the Blades fight for Champions League football.
Romain Saïss (WOLVES vs. Norwich):
Wolves have the fixtures on their side, and their current one is against bottle of the table Norwich. Romain Saïss plays as the right sided central defender in the wake of Ryan Bennett’s departure to Leicester and has started eleven out of the last twelve games. Saïss has two consecutive 6pt returns against Man United and Leicester, and it is a safe bet to trust a third in GW27. Wolves defenders are actually a very good option with their upcoming fixtures, and Romain Saïss is one of the more affordable options that appears to be rotation proof in the team.
Nicolas Pépé (ARSENAL vs. Everton):
The Ivorian winger is a confusing player, as when he turns it on, it is turned ON. Either Pépé is just another average player, or he is the Man of the Match. This season he won the game for the Gunners against Villa in GW6, got the assist to win the game in a 1-0 win against Bournemouth in GW8, got 12pts as the scalpel that carved open West Ham in GW16, scored the opening goal against Man United in GW21, and finally was the bulldozer that made things happen in last weeks 4-0 win over Newcastle. Every other performance has literally been a dead affair. Pepe has come into explosive form, and we are hoping that against Everton it lasts for more than one week.

Manchester United’s best player may have only played two games for them, and after watching these two games the Portuguese has made an instant impact since his move to the Premier League. The Red Devil’s are chasing Champions League football for next season, and their best chance is through building their uncertain team around their only certainty. Against Wolves it was Fernandes who was the only player with a fighting spirit and was unlucky not to score, and against Chelsea this past Monday he was the one to deliver the assist for Harry Maguire’s controversial goal.
The Portuguese appears to do a bit of everything; he wants to get into the box, he wants to create, and has set pieces on his side too which has already benefited the red of Manchester against their blue London rivals. We haven’t praised any of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recruitment which has been all over the place, and if Fernandes consistently performs with a point to prove he will undoubtedly be the Norwegians best signing for the club.
What suits us for picking Fernandes as this week’s differential captaincy is that for the time being the Portuguese hasn’t been figured out, he is still adapting to the league and teams will be risking strategies to negate the creative midfielder. That makes him one of the best differentials in the league, and for the rest of the season he will have that tagline attached to his name, and for fantasy managers the hefty £8.0mil price will most likely keep him pigeonholed into low ownership. Managers will have Fernandes in the back of their heads, watching as he takes on Watford at Old Trafford this weekend, but there are 2.9% of players that will feel confident that Bruno can help spark a resurgent of positive results.
FPL captaincy is easy, as you need an in-form player, the right fixture, and a certainty they can make an impact in your team ahead of other players. Only Liverpool have the certain fixture this week against West Ham at home, and in a close second is The Red Devils against Watford at Old Trafford. Fernandes is the perfect fit for this Gameweek to do something different, especially if you are looking for a Hueng-Min Son replacement.
