Premier League Match Report (06/07/20): Spurs 1-0 Everton

Match Report (GW33): Spurs 1-0 Everton
Two sides battling in the mid-table of the Premier League, looking to move into European football contention, met in what we perceived to be a clash of sides on an even keel and for the first twenty minutes that's what we got - two sides who didn't know how to pass, slowly warming into this Monday night encounter.
The real test scare for Jordan Pickford came in the 21st minute when Lucas Moura flashed wide-right from range, before Spurs found luck just 3 minutes later when, for the first time in the match, either side was able to draw more than two passes together. Eric Dier won a header with Lo Celso collecting. Son and Lo Celso played a one-two before Kane got involved. The England captain turned and got a shot off with his left-boot, though the efforted was blocked in the direction of Lo Celso whose own shot was wayward but rebounded in off Michael Keane for an own-goal.
Spurs, who largely controlled the flow and tempo of the first-half went close in the 28th minute after Lo Celso was fouled just outside the penalty area, with Eric Dier's free-kick curling over the bar without troubling Pickford.
Viewers had to wait a long time before another opening, with Heung-Min Son stinging the palms of Pickford from range in the 63rd minute. The pattern of play in the second-half was simple though. Spurs concede a free-kick. Everton's subsequent dead-ball attempt was horrible. Spurs counter, lose possession. Repeat.
Everton decided they wanted to play in the closing moments, though a comfortable save from Lloris after a Mois Kean low drive was the only test that The Toffees could register as they fell to a boresome defeat.
Man of the Match: Giovani Lo Celso (TOT)
Slim pickings in a dire affair, Lo Celso was the only real player who provided any real flair or attacking intent that looked like he might change the game. His shot was that bounced off of Michael Keane was also the match-winning moment in an otherwise game to forget.
TOT 1-0 EVE - Insight and Analysis:
Without trying to start this off with a negative, but both me and @HypeTrainSam really struggled to pay attention to this match - not because we didn't want to, but because nothing really happened. This was a largely stale affair between two sides who are where they are in the table for a reason.
Everton lacked any life or attacking impetus that troubled a pedestrian Spurs side, with the home team the only ones who really looked like they would win the game, though that was a stretch. Even the goal was a moment of luck, with a deflection off Michael Keane forcing the issue in a stagnant encounter. Furthermore, the scuffle at half-time between Son and Lloris at half-time just sums up the lack of real talking points.
This game featured Harry Kane Heung Min Son, Richarlison among creative players, in what ultimately was a defensive exercise by two Managers who in truth are well versed in the defensive arts. There is one plus, if you watched this game and didn't get a lot of sleep last night, you'll be hitting the pillow hard tonight.
