FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 6

Who are the teams to look out for and avoid?:

Nottingham Forest (Watch): After signing one million players in the summer transfer window, eventually the question must be asked: what are they going to do with two squads of players? It is clear they are going for a concept where the cream rises to the top, where the best of a big bunch gets the rights to play. It is a massive risk, but against Bournemouth they should be looking for a comprehensive win, and with Dennis back in the league, backed by half of Europe that has signed for them, surely, they have to do something.

Liverpool (Watch): The Reds have been back on form, and after a massive win over Bournemouth, and a Champions win over Newcastle on Wednesday, they will be feeling great going into the Merseyside Derby. Nunez will be back, Roberto Firmino is in good shape, Salah is getting returns. Everton should be worried.

Manchester United (Avoid): Despite two consecutive wins, the Red Devils are up against a 100% record Arsenal. I can see this being a tight game, and this is so far United’s biggest test, but I can see Jesus running riot at Old Trafford.

Wolves vs. Southampton (???): This game has a 0-0 or 1-1 written all over it.

Top FPL player targets ahead of Gameweek 6:

GK: Dean Henderson (NFO, GK, £4.6mil, 13.1% ownership)

DEF: Kieran Trippier (NEW, DEF, £5.1mil, 28.15 ownership)

MID: Dejan Kulusevski (TOT, MID, £8.2mil, 14.% ownership)

FWD: Erling Haaland (MCI, FWD, £11.9mil, 75.4% ownership)

Gameweek 6 - FPL Differential Picks:

EVE/LIV: Harvey Elliott (LIV, MID, £5.0mil, 1.2% ownership)

BRE/LEE: Yoane Wissa (BRE, MID, £5.4mil, 0.2% ownership)

CHE/WHU: Mason Mount (CHE, MID, £7.7mil, 4.3% ownership)

NEW/CRY: Miguel Almirón (NEW, MID, £5.0mil, 1.8% ownership)

NFO/BOU: Harry Toffolo (NFO, DEF, £4.5mil, 0.2% ownership)

TOT/FUL: Emerson Royal (TOT, DEF, £5.1mil, 5.2% ownership)

WOL/SOU: Raúl Jiménez (WOL, FWD, £6.9mil, 0.6% ownership)

AVL/MCI: Phil Foden (MCI, MID, £8.0mil, 7.4% ownership)

BHA/LEI: Leandro Trossard (BHA, MID, £6.5mil, 3.0% ownership)

MUN/ARS: Jadon Sancho (MUN, MID, £7.3mil, 6.3% ownership)

Differential Captain: Leandro Trossard (Brighton)

The Seagulls have been playing fantastic football this season, and they kept Trossard at the club, which I thought was going to be impossible as he is one of the best up and coming players in the Premier League. The Belgian has been in good form in the past few weeks, picking up his first goal of the season against West Ham in GW3, and then nabbing an assist against Leeds in GW4. Potter’s team host a resurgent Fulham, and this is going to be an amazing game where I expect both teams to be amongst the goals.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

Essential: Erling Haaland (MCI)

Alternative: Harry Kane (TOT)

Differential (low ownership %): Leandro Trossard (BHA)

Rest of the World XI Challenge Team:

What is Sam’s team all about?: For the 22/23 season, Sam’s latest challenge sees his actual squad only being comprised of players from outside of Europe, with players only from Asia, North and South America, Australasia, and Africa considered.

Target Points: 2330pts

Total Points: 247pts

22/23 Captaincy: 3/5

Transfers / Ins & Outs: N/A – banking 2 transfers for GW7

Both of my transfers in for GW5 paid off with both Firmino scoring, and Estupiñán picking up an assist for Brighton. I had an okay week, another captaincy success. Erling Haaland is making my life hell as it looks like he could be on 20 goals by the end of GW12.

The Gameweek 6 team of the non-EU challenge includes:

22/23 Challenge Team: Rest of the World XI

GW6 Formation: 3-5-2

GK: Edouard Mendy (CHE)

DEF: Emerson Royal (TOT)

DEF: Kalidou Koulibaly (CHE)

DEF: Pervis Estupiñán (BHA)

MID: Miguel Almirón (NEW)

MID: Hueng-Min Son (TOT)

MID: Gabriel Martinelli (ARS)

MID: Luis Diaz (LIV)

MID: Mohamad Salah (LIV) - (C)

FWD: Gabriel Jesus (ARS) - (VC)

FWD: Roberto Firmino (LIV)

Substitutes:

GK: Wily Caballero (SOU)

DEF: Gabriel (ARS)

DEF: Davinson Sánchez (TOT)

FWD: Taiwo Awoniyi (NFO)

2022/23 Premier League Season: Gameweek Fantasy Forecast (Robert Austin)

Fixture Predictions: Gameweek 6

Everton 1-3 Liverpool

Brentford 1-1 Leeds

Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

Newcastle 1-0 Crystal Palace

Nottingham Forest 2-1 Bournemouth

Spurs 3-0 Fulham

Wolves 0-1 Southampton

Aston Villa 0-4 Man City

Brighton 1-1 Leicester

Man United 2-2 Arsenal

FPL Forecasting: Gameweek 6

FPL analysis ahead of Gameweek 6:

Captaincy table tennis between Haaland and Salah: Based on how the season has shaped up until this moment, the major gap for FPL players who have been taking the game with any form of seriousness is the difference in captaincy choice. I’ve had a decent start in FPL, but have captained Salah the last two weeks whilst the Premier League’s Norwegian Terminator runs through teams like soft butter. If you’re looking to stay afloat alongside casuals, template chasers.

On Transfers Deadline Day: Chelsea were the big spenders over the transfer window with a summer spend of 278.4 million (including add-ons) and were the team who added Aubameyang and Zakaria to add potential starting eleven depth. Elsewhere, Fulham, Southampton, and Forest, added numbers to potentially unsettle starting squad players, but if anything their signings should reinforce their squads and makes the likes of Neco Williams good rotational players to use at home. Overall though, the obscene money spent in the Premier League is eye-watering and utterly ridiculous. Surely this level of transfer fees just can’t continue.

Top transfers for one week: If you’re doing your transfers on a week-to-week basis, there are some good options to consider. Pervis Estupiñán (BHA) comes in at £4.5m and is every bit attacking as Marc Cucurella (CHE) was. Even if I think Brighton may struggle this Gameweek, the Seagulls have a good run of fixtures to rely upon… Elsewhere, I’m slightly jaded on the subject due to being a Newcastle supporter and if you need a Rodrigo replacement (1,720,691 already have sacked off the Spaniard), instead of Wilfried Zaha (CRY), you may find more joy in Jadon Sancho (MUN), Gabriel Martinelli (ARS), or Pascal Gross (BHA).

A lack of clean sheets?: The trend in our predictions, as well as what we observe online (i.e. Chris Sutton’s BBC scores, as well as on socials with the FPL Community), there is a lack of faith in teams keeping clean sheets. Only 4 teams management clean sheets during Gameweek 5, with Man City the only ‘reliable’ source of points. Just an observation, but players in FPL are losing confidence in the 5-3-2 formation, and are slowly migrating over to the classic 3-4-3 formation, especially as cheaper, in form options (Mitrovic, Rodrigo etc) have become available.

What are the potential stumbling blocks to a good Gameweek?:

- Away games for Arsenal, Man City, and Liverpool, bringing the average points down

- Erling Haaland being rotated by Pep Guardiola.

- Leeds falling off due to Rodrigo’s injury (and any potential points drops due to his injury)

- The early kick-off between Everton and Liverpool being low scoring.

Who are the teams to look out for and avoid?:

Newcastle (Watch): If Isak plays after suffering a dead leg against Liverpool, St James’ Park is going to be one hell of a place to be on Saturday, especially if the Swede scores his first goal on home soil. Palace are a tough nut to crack and will put on a good match, but Newcastle’s home record and atmosphere is currently an intimidating place to go and I only see one outcome.

Man City (Watch): All eyes will be on if Erling Haaland starts and with the game being a 17:30pm showcase game on television, my gut is saying that City aren’t going to rotate Haaland, especially as they are managing his minutes. Also, you don’t bench someone on a hot streak like this, and if Pep actually does it I will personally take him to be committed at the nearest asylum – you don’t mess with these numbers, especially in the early part of the season whilst the league haven’t quite figured the attacker out.

Southampton (Watch): After a shaky start to the season, Southampton have improve game-on-game and have added some experienced Premier League players to add some much needed depth to their squad. This buzz after some recent performances should carry them over the line against a Wolves side who haven’t quite clicked. It’s a fixture that can go either way, and a lot of predictions I have seen believe Wolves to be favourites, but if there is one score to raise eyebrows, I imagine it will be in the midlands.

Leicester & Brighton (Cautious): Purelya gut feeling instinct on display here, but I’ve a feeling that those backing Brighton assets in FPL might be frustrated this weekend. Sure, Leicester have only scored twice, whilst Brighton have only shipped 3 goals (the fewest in the league), but there is part of me that thinks Leicester will be looking for a statement performance after a poor start to the season. They’re more than capable, and Rodgers has been conducting himself well and could really take the shine off of Gross and Sanchez owners.

Nottingham Forest (Cautious): I, like millions of others, am a Neco Williams owner, but I’ve the Welshman on the bench this weekend. A lot of new players, against a wildcard team in Bournemouth with a Manager, it could cause chaos to what looks like a routine Forest home win.

FPL Captaincy Picks:

Essential: Erling Haaland (MCI)

Alternative: Mohamed Salah (LIV)

Differential (low ownership %): Alexsander Isak (NEW)

FPL Squad Picks: Gameweek 6

Formation: 4-3-3

Budget: £101.7 million
